Seeking a new career challenge? Then Woolpert is seeking you! Woolpert is hiring a Survey Crew Chief to join our team in Miami Florida. The Survey Crew Chief is a technical position within the survey and geomatics discipline, responsible for leading a survey crew in the field for various types of projects, including land title, transportation, energy, aviation, and land development surveys. Under the guidance of the Survey Team Leader, this role involves performing field survey work, ensuring accurate data collection and compliance with industry standards and company procedures. The Survey Crew Chief role will require you to exercise technical expertise, leadership skills, and communication in a collaborative environment offering career growth opportunities. Responsibilities
Lead and assist a survey crew in conducting boundary, topographic, construction, and as-built surveys.
- Operate survey instruments, including total stations, GNSS equipment, levels, and data collectors.
- Process daily survey files using software such as Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, Global Mapper, and Bentley MicroStation.
- Prepare detailed field notes and sketches to document survey activities.
- Follow project requirements, goals, and schedules set by the Senior Survey Crew Chief or Survey Team Leader.
- Ensure survey work meets project plans, client requirements, and accuracy standards.
- Monitor project progress and promptly report issues or delays to supervisors.
- Conduct initial quality control checks on survey data and field measurements.
- Verify survey data accuracy and adherence to tolerances, standards, and company QC procedures.
- Promote and enforce safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
- Perform safety checks of survey equipment and vehicles, and maintain PPE inventory for the team.
- Provide guidance and basic training to junior survey crew members.
- Support the Senior Survey Crew Chief in evaluating crew performance and fostering team development.
Qualifications
- Must have a BA/BS or four (4) years of related experience and applicable OSHA certifications. CST and LSIT certifications are desired.
- Must be mentally and physically capable of performing all essential duties required of the position.
- Must have above average communication skills, both verbal and written and be able to effectively present information before groups of clients or employees.
- Proficiency in using survey instruments and software, including total stations, GNSS, levels, and data collectors.
- Intermediate understanding of survey principles, methods, and practices.
- Ability to interpret and analyze survey data, maps, and construction plans.
- Good organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Must be able to work with survey-related mathematical concepts (proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, slope, elevations, etc.).
- Must be able to frequently travel overnight and work overtime as needed.
- Must be able to work overtime as required.
- CPU literate: Proficient computer skills, including data transfer, data processing software, and basic CAD/GIS applications.
- Must pass a pre-employment driver's license background check and maintain satisfactory driving record, as required by our insurance company.
- Must successfully pass periodic drug testing as required by company policy.
Physical Qualifications:
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
- Good physical condition and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to frequently reach with hands and arms, bend and climb and/or balance.
- Ability to use tools, and equipment. For instance, Tape measure, cloth / steel tape, machete, hammer.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Must have vision abilities of close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed primarily in outdoor environments, often in remote and rugged locations.
- Exposure to various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and snow.
- Physical demands include standing for extended periods, walking on uneven terrain, and carrying equipment.
