Job Description

The ADA Coordinator and Campus Accessibility Specialist operates as a member of the Office of Equity & Title IX team and works in collaboration with UMKC's HR Business Partners and a multitude of other campus and community partners to address all aspects of compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other civil rights laws, including facilitation of the interactive employee accommodation process and addressing reports of barriers to access, whether physical or digital, on the UMKC campuses.

Responsibilities Include:

Accommodations

  • Manage the accommodation process by responding to ADA, pregnancy, and religious-based requests.
  • Facilitate productive conversations between employees and supervisors to coordinate reasonable workplace accommodations.
  • Securely manage sensitive documentation, role descriptions, and job duties related to accommodation requests with the discretion and confidentiality required by law and policy.
  • Identify and address obstacles to physical accessibility within UMKC employment, educational programs, and activities.
  • Identify and address digital accessibility concerns within UMKC employment, educational programs, and activities, ensuring compliance with regulations for Title II of the ADA.
  • Work collaboratively with campus and system partners to ensure full compliance with all federal and state accessibility laws and policies.
  • Maintain oversight of current UMKC lactation spaces.

Training, Education, and Outreach

  • Partner with a network of campus and community leaders to deliver impactful trainings and educational initiatives on policies and practices related to accessibility and accommodations.
  • Design and distribute educational materials related to accommodations and accessibility.
  • Track program outcomes and contribute to assessment efforts that support continuous improvement.
  • Participate actively in the UM System ADA Coordinators and All Campus Disability Committees, lending expertise and collaborating on system-wide projects.
  • Build and nurture relationships with campus and community partners to advance accessibility across UMKC.
  • Represent ETIX on other university or community committees as appropriate.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Stay current with evolving laws, regulations, and best practices in workplace accommodations and accessibility.
  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and accuracy in managing protected information and records.
  • Foster a welcoming and respectful environment for all, treating every individual with dignity and professionalism.
  • Completes other duties as assigned
  • Evening, weekend hours, and travel may be required on occasion
Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Requirements are:

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands
  • Ability to maintain confidential information, exercise sound and objective judgment, and work independently
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and state equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws, regulations, and guidance applicable to institutions of higher education, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, the PUMP Act, and other related laws and policies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Juris doctorate or master's degree in a related field (e.g., vocational rehabilitation, special education, social work, human resource management, higher education administration, etc.)
  • Experience in higher education, student conduct, program planning, and/or working with legal services organizations.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to meet the needs of individuals with a range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
  • Solid writing, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Maxient case management software, and internet applications (social media, report tracking, etc.)
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary range starts at $52,916. Offer will be contingent on experience, education, and internal equity.
