This Position reports to: Research Department Manager This position is classified under Global Grade: Grade 13 Your role and responsibilities In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in dynamic, international teams comprised of people with a wide range of experience and competencies to develop technical innovations for ABB Electrification and Motion Business Areas. Each day, you will conduct groundbreaking initiatives in technologies related to electrical apparatus (e.g., electrical motors, (instrument) transformers, and switchboards are few examples) addressing, for instance, their modelling, (insulation/conductive/magnetic) materials selection, manufacturing, or testing. Also, you will be able to pursue personal initiatives and entrepreneurial behavior in a challenging and rewarding work environment. The work model for the role is: Onsite This role is contributing to the ABB Corporate Research Center located on North Carolina State's Centennial Campus in Raleigh, NC. You will be mainly accountable for: *Modelling, designing, building, testing, and recommending solutions applied to industrial electrical components and (sub)systems *Bringing an innovative approach interfacing with local and external partners in achieving the best technical results on time and on budget. *Challenging existing methodologies, shortening design cycles and de-risking novel technologies. Qualifications for the role * Bachelors (with 5+ years of industrial experience), or Master's degree (with 2+ years of industrial experience) or PhD with (0-1 year of industrial experience) in Engineering (Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Materials preferred) or Physics *Expertise in at least two of the following areas: modelling (dielectric, mechanical, and thermal preferred in that order), materials (insulating applied to electrical components preferred), manufacturing (e.g., casting/injection molding, 3-D printing, and welding are few examples), mechatronics (design/assembly/testing of hardware); knowledge in Matlab, Solidworks (or Creo), Ansys, and hands-on approach to solve practical challenges involving prototyping including hardware/firmware integration (e.g., LabView, C++) will be beneficial for the role. * Demonstrate ability to translate technical specifications project planning, required technical documentation, and reporting. *Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
