Maintenance Mechanic

Location: Onsite (East Syracuse, NY)

Schedule: 1st shift - Flexible hours (7am to 3:30pm) w/ OT

Compensation:

Start: $36.35/hr

16 weeks: $37.77/hr

6 months: $37.83/hr

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Mechanic to maintain, repair, and inspect mechanical systems and equipment across our facility. This role ensures the safe and efficient operation of critical building infrastructure including pumps, valves, compressors, steam boilers, and storm water systems. The position requires strong mechanical expertise, troubleshooting skills, and strict adherence to safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities Preventative & Corrective Maintenance
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on building systems, plumbing, mechanical, fire and life safety, security, and building automation systems
  • Perform repairs, adjustments, and replacements of malfunctioning components
  • Respond to facility emergencies with immediate troubleshooting and repairs
Steam System & Boiler Operations
  • Operate, maintain, and repair high-pressure steam boilers and auxiliary components
  • Inspect boilers and pressure vessels for defects, leaks, and weak spots
  • Conduct chemical analyses of boiler water and implement corrective actions
  • Control water levels, combustion air, and fuel flow through valve operations
  • Install, connect, and adjust boiler controls and safety systems
Mechanical Systems Management
  • Maintain plumbing systems including fixtures, drainage, and water lines
  • Service pumps, motors, compressors, fans, and related equipment
  • Operate and maintain storm water systems and powerhouse equipment
  • Repair door hardware, wall fixtures, and building components
Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate records of work orders, repair logs, and inventory
  • Generate performance reports on equipment and energy consumption
  • Ensure OSHA compliance and building code adherence
  • Execute proper Lockout/Tagout procedures
Required Skills
  • High-pressure steam boiler operation and maintenance
  • Plumbing system maintenance and repair
  • Mechanical system troubleshooting and diagnosis
  • Blueprint and schematic interpretation
  • Hand and power tool proficiency
  • Steam and condensate distribution system knowledge
  • Safety protocol adherence and PPE usage
  • Lockout/Tagout procedures
  • Emergency response and problem-solving
  • Record keeping and documentation
  • Effective communication with occupants and management

Qualifications Education & Experience

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Facilities maintenance or related trades experience
  • Steam generation and distribution systems experience
  • Boiler and auxiliary system knowledge

Preferred:

  • Technical training program completion
  • Journey-level or senior-level maintenance experience
  • Advanced steam system certifications
Certifications & Licenses

Required:

  • Qualification approval from Mechanical Supervisor for boiler operations

Preferred:

  • Valid driver's license * OSHA Safety Certificate
  • Forklift operator certification
  • Medium/high-pressure steam system certifications
  • Boiler operator license
Physical Requirements
  • Work in boiler rooms with high temperatures and pressure systems
  • Wear flame-resistant clothing, steel-toed boots, and protective eyewear
  • Lift and carry tools and equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Work in confined spaces and at various heights
  • Stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods

Estimated compensation for this position:

75,608.00 - 78,686.40 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
