Job Overview

The Senior Director, Stores Finance leads the overall financial planning, reporting, and analysis for Macy's store operations, driving performance across approximately 450 locations. This leader oversees the development of additional store support budgets, including Backstage and Macy's Small Format. The Senior Director provides strategic and operational leadership in financial planning, forecasting, expense control, and process improvement for Macy's Stores.

They deliver key projects and build forecasting models that enhance store expense productivity and profitability, managing an annual business team expense budget. In partnership with the Chief Stores Officer, the Senior Director contributes to strategic thinking and execution-both in day-to-day operations and enterprise-wide initiatives aligned with Macy's Bold New Chapter, including F50 and N75.

Additionally, the Senior Director manages the Stores capital budget, leading monthly forecasting for book and cash flows, supporting capital project analysis, and serving as the primary leader for all Stores capital matters.

This role is designed for a high-potential individual with strong cross-functional leadership capabilities, executive presence, and the ability to act on insights and effectively lead a team.

What You Will Do



  • Serve as a key advisor and strategic partner to senior executives and peer leaders across Macy's Stores.
  • Support decision-making by providing expertise in financial planning, forecasting, analysis, and modeling.
  • Influence senior leaders and drive the execution of decisions across a broad, cross-functional scope.
  • Oversee the financial management of Store operating expenses, including budget development, forecasting, variance analysis, and fiscal close processes.
  • Understand Store operations and processes, and assess how operational changes impact financial results.
  • Lead monthly forecast review meetings with Corporate FP&A to ensure alignment, accuracy, and transparency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners-such as Corporate FP&A, Workforce Management, Accounting, and Tax-to resolve issues and drive initiatives.
  • Deliver comprehensive reporting for Macy's Stores, including P&L statements, variance analysis, executive presentations, and key performance metrics.
  • Track and report on strategic initiatives (e.g., F50, N75), ensuring timely and accurate updates to maximize investment value.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analyses to evaluate the impact of store initiatives and support data-driven decision making.
  • Provide analytical and strategic support for enterprise initiatives, special projects, and ad hoc requests as needed.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.

Skills You Will Need

Financial Planning & Analysis - Deep expertise in budgeting, forecasting, modeling, and variance analysis to support sound financial decisions and optimize expense productivity.

Strategic Partnership - Serves as a trusted advisor to senior executives, contributing to enterprise and operational strategies with actionable financial insights.

Data-Driven Decision Making - Leverages financial and operational data to evaluate the impact of store initiatives, drive cost optimization, and support strategic investments like F50 and N75.

Capital Budget Management - Leads planning, forecasting, and analysis for the ~$160M Stores capital budget, ensuring accurate reporting of book and cash flows and effective resource allocation.

Retail Operations Acumen - Strong understanding of store processes and operations, enabling accurate assessment of financial impact and alignment of support strategies.

Executive Communication - Communicates with clarity and confidence across all levels of the organization, delivering data-rich presentations and financial updates that influence decision-making.

Cross-Functional Collaboration - Partners effectively across Finance, Accounting, Workforce Management, and Store Operations to resolve issues and drive enterprise initiatives.

Team Leadership & Development - Coaches, develops, and motivates a high-performing team, fostering growth and retaining top talent within a complex, matrixed organization.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of related experience. 5 years of experience in finance with emphasis on budgeting, forecasting, planning, analysis, and strong modeling skills preferred.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
