The Opportunity

We are seeking a Specialist, Business Development (Litigation) to join our Firm. This position will be based in our New York office (hybrid). Within this position, you will collaborate with the Associate and Assistant Directors of Business Development to drive business growth and enhance market presence by nurturing existing client relationships and strategically acquiring new ones. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supports the Business Development team in the identification of new targets and the execution of various activities that enable partners to build new and existing relationships among others, through the coordination of meetings and events, pitches and proposals and thought leadership marketing.
  • Helps with the execution of cross-selling initiatives, including industry groups and client teams.
  • Leads research and analyses of legal developments and business trends to find new opportunities to engage with clients and contacts.
  • Coordinates RFPs and pitches for new business development opportunities, with support from practice-based pitch team and works closely with relevant partners and the Business Development team.
  • Supports enhancements to pitch templates and content to improve the content and design of the Firm's materials.
  • Helps draft copies to convey Skadden's credentials and competitive advantage.
  • Collaborates with the Experience team to ensure the Firm's experience database is always up to date.
  • Maintains a library of frequently-used documents that includes pitch templates, lawyer biographies, and practice area descriptions.
  • Collaborates with the Marketing and global PR teams to raise the Litigation Department's internal and external visibility in key markets through speaking opportunities, public relations, and social media.
  • Researches profile-raising opportunities for partners, including sponsorships, events, and community organizations.
  • Analyzes contact and attendee lists for email campaigns and events, supports follow-up with key contacts, and tracks outcomes and activities in the CRM system.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., InterAction, Foundation, MS Office including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry best practices, trends and techniques
  • Demonstrates strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines and stay productive in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrates strong attention to details, with exceptional proofreading and fact checking skills
  • Demonstrates a professional demeanor, high emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity and ability to interact effectively with all levels
  • Demonstrates an ability to continuously improve and innovate (e.g. regularly improve existing content and design of pitch and proposal materials)
  • Ability to develop a deep understanding of the Firm's business
  • Ability to develop relationships and collaborate with stakeholders
  • Ability to learn new software, systems, databases, and procedures quickly
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills
  • Ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team
  • Flexibility to travel and attend key events and meetings on occasion
  • Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of three years of directly related experience in a law firm or professional services environment

The starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law.
