About This Role

The personnel in this position will be responsible for collection of specimens from rabies diagnostic cases, sample preparation, nucleic acid extraction, serum dilutions, virus growth and dilution, cell staining, real-time and traditional PCR, and microscopic reading of slides with calculation of results. Data entry of test submissions, test results, and quality control tracking and report generation. The position requires successfully completing proficiency testing, maintaining laboratory records and equipment, and assisting with daily operations. The role also involves ensuring compliance with departmental, university, state, federal, and AAVLD guidelines while meeting laboratory turnaround times. As an essential position, variable work schedules may be required depending on workload.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Diagnostic Technician I - Requires a high school diploma and two years of relevant experience. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.
  • Diagnostic Technician II - Requires an associate degree and two years of relevant experience. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • BS in Biology or related sciences
  • Proficient computer skills including databases, spreadsheets, word processing and data entry are required.
  • Excellent written and oral, interpersonal organization, and communication skills.


Sponsorship eligibility:

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range

Level I: $16.76 - $25.32 per hour

Level II: $18.86 - $32.05 per hour

Hiring manager will determine appropriate position level candidates will be hired into based on candidate education, experience, and department needs.
