DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for administering standardized tests to assess the skills and competencies of applicants for both Commercial and Non-Commercial Driver Licenses, ensuring the process is conducted safely and courteously. Your duties will include evaluating the physical and driving qualifications of applicants, as well as inspecting vehicles to ensure they meet safety standards. You will test applicants' knowledge of the motor vehicle code and traffic signs, and assess their practical driving abilities in accordance with road rules. Additionally, you will process test results, administer the Commercial Driver License (CDL) knowledge exam, and conduct pre-trip and driving assessments. It will also be your responsibility to review applications, registrations, and permits for any signs of irregularities or fraud, as well as to check vehicles for compliance with inspection requirements. You will perform vision tests, including telebinocular and color perception assessments, while strictly adhering to all aspects of the PennDOT Driver and Vehicle Services Customer Service Policy.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position will require overtime and travel.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.


Special Requirements:
  • This position require an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • This position require no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
