The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary The Office of Professionalism at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) has overall responsibility for building mechanisms to promote the CUIMC Code of Values - CUIMC CARES - and for developing communication strategies and training programs aimed at fostering a working, learning, and care environment where all members of the Columbia community treat each other with courtesy, civility, respect, fairness, and an awareness of the impact their behavior may have on others, including those CUIMC serves. The Assistant Director reports to the AVP for Academic Appointments & Professionalism and to the Director of Professionalism. Responsibilities Oversee Office of Professionalism Operations, including support for PRIME Program Operations This includes:
- Collaborating with the Director to manage formal and informal procedures related to reported incidents of alleged policy violations and concerns involving academic personnel at CUIMC.
- Participating in the resolution of academic officers' grievances, complaints, or allegations involving disrespectful behavior, harassment, or other potential misconduct. This includes ensuring appropriate investigations, documenting findings, and communicating outcomes. Keeping all parties informed of case status, next steps, and any relevant risks.
- Managing the Symplicity Advocate GME database to monitor case progress, outcomes, and trends. Generating reports on case data as needed for departmental and institutional leadership.
- Ensuring documentation, vetting, and proper dissemination of review and investigation details to involved parties, as appropriate.
- Conducting mediations or facilitated conversations with faculty and other academic personnel, as appropriate.
- Assisting in the development of materials and training to inform the campus community about Office of Professionalism policies and procedures.
- Supporting operational functions of the Tripartite PRIME Program.
- Overseeing office calendars and scheduling meetings/interviews related to reported concerns and office projects.
- Managing procurement of goods and services, processing travel and business expense reimbursements, and assisting with budget management.
- Providing coverage for the Office of Faculty Affairs as needed. Performing other duties and special projects as assigned.
Support Training and Resource Development Assist in developing, managing, and implementing training programs for faculty, officers of research, and other relevant audiences, focusing on the CUIMC Code of Values - CUIMC CARES. Also support intake and response to inquiries from faculty, researchers, student officers, and staff. This includes:
- Working with the Director of Professionalism to strategically and collaboratively develop training programs tailored to the needs of the CUIMC community.
- Creating and updating training materials to ensure content is engaging, current, and aligned with applicable policies.
- Assisting in the development and dissemination of evidence-based conflict resolution tools for faculty and other academic personnel.
- Supporting the implementation of pre- and post-training assessments and providing data reports to departments that received training.
- Informing individuals who contact the Office of Professionalism about available procedures for registering complaints, ensuring a safe, non-retaliatory process.
- Assisting with the development and facilitation of additional trainings as assigned.

Types of Training Programs Include (but are not limited to):
- General overview of University policies and procedures on professionalism, civility, respect, misconduct, implicit/explicit bias, and anti-retaliation
- Group trainings to educate community members and affiliates on the role of the Office of Professionalism
- Individual training addressing behavior inconsistent with university policies, standards, or the CUIMC Code of Values
- Workshops related to Respect, Professionalism, Civility, and Inclusion initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience; Master's or other advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of four (4) years or more of relevant experience required.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Self-directed with strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong analytical and project management capabilities.
- Proven ability to prioritize and respond to requests in a timely and knowledgeable manner.
- Flexible and adaptable with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, track, and report data effectively.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in faculty/researcher/staff-facing roles strongly preferred.
- Background in human resources, legal, or compliance fields.
- Experience with mediation or conflict resolution practices.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local civil rights and employment laws.
- Experience developing and delivering training, mediation, and presentations to academic and administrative audiences.
- Demonstrated commitment to respect, collegiality, civility, equity, inclusion, and non-discrimination.
