Job Description

The Senior Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a strategic advisor and trusted consultant to El Camino Health leaders, shaping talent strategies that drive business performance, regulatory excellence, and a culture of engagement and accountability. Embedded within key departments, the HRBP acts as a connector between organizational priorities and people strategy, translating vision into measurable results through data, insights, and leadership partnership.

This role requires the agility to operate across strategic, consultative, and executional levels, advising leaders from Manager to VP, addressing complex workforce challenges, and fostering leadership capability in support of exceptional patient care. The HRBP partners closely with HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) to design and deliver integrated solutions that advance organizational success.

Core Responsibilities

  • Strategic Talent Partnership:
    Serve as a key advisor on organizational design, workforce planning, and leadership alignment. Translate strategic priorities into actionable people plans that strengthen capability, engagement, and retention.
    Partner with leaders to anticipate workforce needs, enabling the right structure, talent, and culture to meet evolving service and growth demands.

  • Leadership & Organizational Effectiveness:
    Build leadership capability by coaching and advising on performance management, team effectiveness, and culture transformation. Facilitate succession planning and talent calibration discussions to identify and accelerate high-potential talent.

  • Enterprise Program Leadership:
    Drive deployment of enterprise-wide HR initiatives such as leadership development, engagement, IDEB, and change management, ensuring consistent adoption and alignment with hospital strategy.
    Act as a liaison between business areas and HR COEs, integrating expertise across compensation, talent acquisition, learning, and analytics for maximum impact.

  • Employee & Labor Relations:
    Navigate complex employee issues with sound judgment and risk mitigation. Build leader capability in promoting fairness, accountability, and compliance with legal and policy standards.

  • Data-Driven Insights & Decision Support:
    Leverage workforce analytics and trends (e.g., turnover, engagement, retention, pipeline readiness) to inform strategic decisions. Present data-backed insights and dashboards that elevate leader accountability and drive operational excellence.

  • Change Leadership & Communication:
    Champion change initiatives with transparency and empathy. Lead communication and alignment efforts that strengthen trust, engagement, and understanding across departments and teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management preferred; related experience in lieu of degree will be considered

  • 12+ years of progressive HR experience, including 4+ years in senior or consultative roles

  • Prior experience in a healthcare or unionized environment preferred

  • Proven ability to influence executives and senior leaders in complex organizations

  • Strong strategic consulting, organizational design, and project management capabilities

  • Demonstrated executive presence, judgment, and ability to balance strategy with execution

  • Deep business acumen and understanding of operational, financial, and workforce drivers

  • Skilled in interpreting data to deliver actionable insights and business recommendations

  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills, with discretion in managing sensitive matters

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR systems

  • HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR) preferred

Salary Range:

$82.07 - $123.11 USD Hourly
