Job Title: Interim Corporate Accounting Director (Temporary)
Location: Remote (must be on the East Coast for consideration)

Overview:
Vaco is seeking a seasoned and adaptable Interim Corporate Accounting Director to serve in a critical temporary backfill capacity during an enterprise-wide ERP implementation. While not directly involved in the ERP activities, this individual will provide day-to-day leadership and continuity for the corporate accounting function-supporting teams across the organization and ensuring seamless financial operations during a time of transition.


This is a hands-on role ideal for a leader with deep nonprofit accounting expertise and the ability to quickly integrate into a complex, mission-driven organization. The successful candidate will bring technical strength in financial reporting, intercompany accounting, allocations, and lease accounting (ASC 842). Key Responsibilities:
Operational Accounting & Financial Oversight
  • Lead and support core accounting functions, including general ledger management, monthly close, accounts payable, and variance analysis.
  • Oversee intercompany transactions and reconciliations, allocations, and functional expense reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, GAAP, nonprofit regulations, and established accounting policies.
  • Monitor budget performance and support departmental financial inquiries and reporting needs.
Specialized Accounting
  • Manage deposit accounting activities related to a captive insurance entity.
  • Ensure full compliance with ASC 842 lease accounting requirements, including classification, measurement, and disclosure.
  • Maintain and refine cost allocation methodologies in line with funder and organizational requirements.
Systems & Tools
  • Utilize Microsoft Dynamics GP and Prophix for transactional accounting and budgeting/reporting.
  • Serve as a system administrator and resource for Prophix during the ERP transition-especially in support of annual budget cycles.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting leadership experience, with significant experience in nonprofit human or social services organizations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in:
    • Functional expense reporting and nonprofit compliance
    • Insurance and captive entity accounting
    • Cost allocations and intercompany reconciliations
    • Lease accounting under ASC 842
    • Process and controls improvement
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP and Prophix is a strong plus.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to step into an existing structure and support multiple teams through change.

  • This is a temporary role designed to maintain accounting stability during a major ERP implementation.
  • Ideal candidates will be proactive, collaborative, and capable of providing hands-on support across multiple financial functions without direct involvement in ERP-related workstreams.
