What You Will Be Doing

Working with the Firm's internal tax department to assist in the timely filing of all tax returns and support to the department in its day-to-day customer service to the partners. Responsible for reconciliation of all of the partner accounts, preparation of the Firm's Use tax returns and assistance with the preparation of the Firm's partnership returns. Special project responsibility includes research related to outstanding checks considered eligible as unclaimed property.

About this Role



  • Reviews all purchases on a monthly basis, analyzing to determine whether Use tax applies.
  • Prepares all of the Use tax returns for the various jurisdictions as required (monthly, quarterly, annually) and preparation of payment voucher requests.
  • Assists with information requests for annual Firm audit as well as any tax audits such as use tax and personal property tax audits.
  • Prepares the monthly, quarterly and special partner draw payroll journal entries to be posted to the general ledger.
  • Reconciles activity in partner accounts monthly and prepares lead sheet for year-end calculations (partner capital, partner draw accounts, including special payment accounts, partner A/R and Firm-paid taxes etc.).
  • Responsible for partner payroll (monthly, quarterly and others, as needed).
  • Participates or manages special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Works with department management to make sure that partner reporting is timely delivered: profit, projected earnings and capital statements.
  • Analyzes monthly meals, entertainment and charitable contribution activity in the general accounts for correct classification. Makes necessary reclassification journal entries. Gathers appropriate documentation to support charitable deductions on tax return.
  • Prepares the abandoned property returns for the various State jurisdictions in which we operate.
  • Prepares annual personal property returns for all jurisdictions as needed.
  • Monthly reconciliation and clearing of foreign exchange gain/loss related to partner payments.
  • Tracking and maintaining information related to partners' capital contributions/accounts.
  • Assists with providing information for annual financial statement audit.





Required Skills


Your Qualifications/What You Will Bring



  • Experience with managing significant volume of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings is imperative. The ability to multitask and work simultaneously with multiple projects and various team members is critical.
  • Attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written with individuals at various levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use PC-based and on-line technology, Excel, Outlook, Word, presentation software, etc. Database experience is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to achieve working effectively with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally.




Required Experience


Experience:



  • Minimum 2 years of experience directly related to the duties or skills described herein.
  • Public accounting experience in tax arena preferred, law firm experience a plus.
  • Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Outlook required; database experience a plus.


Education:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent experience. CPA preferred.
