About the role:

As a Laboratory Technician you will assist and execute laboratory tests and experiments following technical specifications, quality procedures/work instructions and safety adherence.

This role is located on-site in Churchill, PA. You will report to the Manager - Materials Innovation.



Key Responsibilities:

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE OF PAY FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.

You will identify laboratory work which requires a high degree of manipulative or other special skills acquired through experience, coupled with technical training and application of knowledge in the area of specialization.

Safety

*Know and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment

*Have a knowledge/use of rules and follow job specific safety requirements (Radiological/stored energy/chemical/industrial)

*Work safely with job hazards such as high heat and stored energy/work safely with hazardous materials

Quality Adherence

*Train, document and follow quality procedures/work instructions and specified Westinghouse quality requirements

*Understand gaps in quality procedures/work instructions

Technical Planning and Execution

*Collect and process data from testing following procedures

*Fabricate test equipment

*Plans technical approach by setting up and conducting experiments with support of higher coded technicians or engineers

*Support and assist identification of test equipment with higher codes

*Execute specific work steps following engineering test plans, industry specifications and standards

Lab Support and Maintenance

*Support maintenance of lab equipment

*Routine housekeeping and material disposal

*Assist in identifying calibration needs of equipment

*Utilize lean manufacturing processes such as "5S"

Administrative

*Perform routine records maintenance

*Ensure all time entries are correct and up to date

*Knowledge and use of Westinghouse specific administrative and tracking systems including the corrective action process, Human Performance tools

*Manage inventory including tools, parts, supplies, chemicals in shop and testing areas

DIRECTION RECEIVED:



  • Receive technical specifications, instructions and advice, apply work methods and techniques, detailed instruction provided for unusual work, technical adequacy reviewed at critical points or at completion. General guidance available as technical need arises.



EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:



  • Associate's degree in an Engineering or technical curriculum. No amount of experience will be permitted to substitute for the required education in Laboratory Tech 10 position. However, recognized technical programs will be permitted to substitute for the required formal education. Some examples of acceptable technical programs would be the Naval Nuclear or other military programs.
  • RMQC Clearance earn and maintain as applicable



EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:



  • 0+ years required if education requirement is met.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following disciplines: Machining, auto-claves, tensile testing, remote manipulators, remote testing and machining of specimens, electrical construction (welding, soldering), mechanical construction (drilling, cutting), metallography, electron-optics, radiological handling and testing.



We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The yearly pay range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $51,028.74 to $75,514.93 per year.
