About The National Artificial Intelligence Research Institute for Adult Learning and Online Education (AI-ALOE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology

The National AI Institute for Adult Learning and Online Education (AI-ALOE for short) is a research institute funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and Accenture through NSF. Led by the Georgia Institute of Technology, AI-ALOE will lead the country and the world in the development of novel AI theories and techniques for enhancing the quality of adult online education. It will foster a research community of computer scientists to conduct responsible use-inspired fundamental research into AI that is grounded in theories of human cognition and learning, supported by evidence from large-scale data, evaluated on a large variety of testbeds, and derived from the scientific process of learning engineering. Together with partners in the higher education and educational technology sector, AI-ALOE will advance online learning to make education more available, affordable, achievable, and ultimately, more equitable.

About The Institute for Data Engineering and Science (IDEaS) at the Georgia Institute of Technology

The Institute for Data Engineering and Science (IDEaS) provides a unified point to connect government, industry, and academia to advance foundational research, and accelerate the adoption of Big Data technology. IDEaS leverages expertise and resources from throughout Georgia Tech's colleges, research labs, and external partners, to define and pursue grand challenges in data science foundations and in data-driven discovery, with energy infrastructure as one of those grand challenges. We are also dedicated to educating students and those already in the workforce through innovative educational and training programs.

The Research Scientist II will be expected to lead the design, development, testing, and fielding of AI cognitive assistants for, intelligent textbooks, interactive learning environments, question answering, smart videos, and social belonging. The responsibilities also may include requirements analysis, documentation, and testing with human subjects, and data analysis. Adaptive and personalized learning is a major aspect of all these projects. The Research Scientist II will lead a team of students who work in small teams including other research scientists and faculty. Hybrid or remote work options are available.

The hiring of the Research Scientist II will be through Georgia Tech's Institute for Data Engineering and Science (IDEAS).

The hiring of the RS2 will be through Georgia Techs Institute for Data Engineering and Science (IDEAS). The initial appointment will be for one year (renewable for additional years) with a competitive salary.

• A Master's degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
• A Master's degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
• A Doctoral degree.

• M.S. in computer science, information technology, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or related discipline with 2-3 years of experience in software development and project management.
• Knowledge of software deployment tools, processes and best practices.
• Experience in AI research and development including both knowledge-based AI and generative AI
• A record of publications on AI assistants for learning and education.

Candidates should include list of three professional references with their application.

• Demonstrable knowledge, skills and abilities in computing technology, including programming (Java, Python, databases) and software development (AWS, GIT).
• A record of publications on AI assistants for learning and education.
• A strong background in the design, development, testing, and fielding of AI software systems.
• Ability to take initiative and to work independently in a collaborative working environment.
