Looking for a Discipline Operations Manager I (Process Improvement & Automation)

Under general supervision of the Discipline Operations Manager II or Discipline Operations Director, will address the additional responsibilities of leading the Process Improvement Automation (PIA) department. The Process Improvement Automation department concentrates on developing custom tools through the Revit API, Excel, and other software platforms. The following essential functions, requirements, and qualifications are in addition to the base Discipline Operations Manager role.

Team Leadership and Development:



  • Develop and implement training programs for PIA Developers
  • Mentor, and develop staff with programming aptitude and innovative mindsets


Project Support and Coordination:



  • Ensure quality and consistency of Revit models across all MEP disciplines.
  • Interface with internal stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve challenging model-related issues.
  • Create and maintain documentation for department procedures
  • Monitor team performance and workload to ensure timely project delivery
  • Performs Model Manager responsibilities on projects as needed


Innovation and Research:



  • Establish process standards, workflows, and best practices for tool and process development
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies or plugins to augment development efforts
  • Lead a team of developers in creating tools using innovative technologies
  • Manage the complete development lifecycle of custom tools from concept to deployment
  • Establish technical requirements and coding standards for software development initiatives
  • Prioritize innovation projects based on business impact and resource availability
  • Foster a culture of creative problem-solving and technological experimentation
  • Oversee beta testing and implementation of new tools


An ideal candidate will possess the following requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Architecture, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience with Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience developing Revit plugins or macros through the Revit API, and or Dynamo
  • Previous people management or project management experience
  • Background in implementing BIM standards and workflows
  • Knowledge of interoperability between Revit and other design software
  • Background in leading innovative initiatives or R&D teams
  • Experience in bridging technical and business requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Comprehensive understanding of Autodesk Revit, and Autodesk ACC (BIM 360)
  • General understanding of MEP systems and their representation in BIM
  • Knowledge and understanding of the concepts and terminology of engineering services
  • Familiarity with MEP engineering principles and construction documentation
  • General knowledge of engineering theories and methodologies
  • Understanding of software development principles and methodologies
  • Knowledge of programming languages relevant to Revit API, and Excel development (C#, VBA)
