Information Technology / Operations Technology personnel continually adapt to technological advancements, ensuring the organization stays at the forefront of emerging IT/OT trends and is well-equipped to meet future challenges while maintaining secure and stable operations.

Discipline Description

In network operations engineer roles, individuals are responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of network infrastructure to ensure reliable and efficient operation of the organization's network systems. Network engineers conduct network installations, perform configuration tasks, and validate network connectivity to ensure successful deployment and integration with existing systems. They provide tactical design, engineering, technical specifications, project coordination and configuration management of complex IT solutions for networking/telecommunications and services. They are responsible for troubleshooting complex networking/telecommunications systems based on general problem input from management and/or customers. They apply technical experience of field specialization to resolve complex problems. They ensure compliance with technical and security requirements by maintaining network security through implementing network access, policy enforcement, monitoring, control, and evaluation. They proactively communicate and coordinate with others across IT and other groups to develop, recommend, and monitor business wide strategic direction for networking/telecommunications and services.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) is seeking an experienced enterprise Network Architect and Administrator to support the Information Technology (IT) organization and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) mission. The successful candidate will have extensive experience and specialize in advanced networking and telecommunications services and provide state-of-the-art solutions enabling the SRNS staff to navigate the ever-changing landscape of digital transformation. This will include designing, implementing, and managing complex networking solutions, including those based on Cisco SDN technologies including (Catalyst Center, ISE, and ACI), Palo Alto FW, and Data Center / Cloud Virtualization. They will be expected to work on various projects in the enterprise network including a centralized campus and remote facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
* Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)
* Configure and install software, servers, routers, and other network devices.
* Identify, diagnose, and resolve network problems.
* Develop comprehensive network design and implementation plans.
* Provide technical support to clients and team members.
* Implement security measures to protect data, software, and hardware
* Develop Network device deployment automation.
* Conduct research, cost-benefit and return-on-investment analysis on proposed hardware, software and systems to justify recommendations, support purchasing efforts, and aid management in making infrastructure design and architecture decisions.
* Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial problems.
* Creatively meet all company and industry requirements and apply site systems to achieve quality, timely and cost-effective results.
* Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, to resolve complex problems.
* Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
* Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
* Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering or scientific principles.
* Evaluate the results of programs and prepare reports and recommendations based on these evaluations.
* Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution.
* Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology.
* Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management.
* Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers colleagues and management.
* Occasionally prepare reports for external publication. Enhance expertise in field through leadership in local technical societies.
* Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in relevant field plus at least ten years of experience (YOE), OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least eight years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field plus at least five years of experience (YOE)
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered
* Extensive experience in networking, routing, and switching across enterprise networks
* Proven work experience as a Network Architect/Engineer with expertise in multi-site software-defined networks
* Hands-on experience with both Internet IPv4 and IPv6 routing to include OSPF, MP-BGP, LISP, and multicast / anycast using PIM
* Proficiency in virtualization to include VXLANs, and spine and leaf networks
* Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools
* Technical writing experience
* Experience diagraming network infrastructure
* Experience working with commercial vendors and outside agencies
* Experience with working with encryption devices
* Experience with VPN tunnels and IPsec
* Solid understanding of network operating systems (Cisco IOS preferred)
* Strong troubleshooting skills and experience in providing support to a wide range of network systems and applications
* Capable of conducting & leading executive level briefings
Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance

* Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
* Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g., Bash, Python, Ansible, Perl)
* Experience with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, hybrid cloud)
* Experience in Federal Government and/or higher educational environments

* A minimum of two professional certifications preferred CCIE, CCNP, CISSP etc

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
