Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Financial Analyst to join our team in a high-impact role supporting JAX Mice and Clinical Research Services. This advanced-level position is ideal for a finance professional with a strong analytical foundation, deep operational insight, and a collaborative mindset. The successful candidate will lead complex financial analysis, reporting, and forecasting efforts, while partnering closely with senior leadership to drive informed decision-making and long-term financial sustainability. This role may also include supervisory responsibilities and cross-functional collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners.

What You'll Contribute

  • Design, maintain, and disseminate information from complex financial reporting tools; serve as the key decision-maker on reporting structures and data design for JMS departments.
  • Manage all key financial statement and metric reporting, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and relevance for operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis of current operations, including the development and review of operational reports. Support business units with budgets ranging from $30M-$50M, potentially across multiple sites.
  • Lead the development and compilation of financial forecasts, including the creation of allocation models to evaluate product lines. Share insights with senior managers and directors, and participate in strategic discussions.
  • Oversee the annual budgeting process for assigned departments, identifying inefficiencies, cost drivers, and pricing gaps. Monitor budget compliance and assess the financial impact of operational changes.
  • Evaluate capital expenditure requests, providing recommendations based on ROI, payback, and financial modeling. Collaborate with other departments to monitor capital projects and assess alignment with strategic plans.
  • Develop financial models to evaluate capacity and resource expansion plans, integrating them with current operations and long-term goals.
  • Partner with senior managers to support operational management and margin improvement initiatives, offering constructive financial feedback and analysis.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of JAX Mice and Clinical Research Services teams, proposing creative solutions to address complex business challenges.
  • Develop and maintain analyses to measure trends, efficiencies, and resource utilization, driving actionable insights.
  • Implement and manage fiscal and administrative controls, procedures, and policies for remote operational units.
  • Lead or support ad hoc financial projects, reports, and strategic initiatives.
  • May supervise financial professionals and clerical staff.

What You're Good At

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; strong foundation in modern accounting theory and financial practices.
  • At least 8 years of experience in financial analysis, with a focus on budgeting, forecasting, and operational finance.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in budget analysis and financial planning, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence others, especially in matrixed or indirect reporting structures.
  • Expert-level proficiency in financial tool development and data analysis using Excel and ERP systems.
  • Strong skills in business intelligence and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, SAP); programming experience (e.g., SQL, R, Python, M) is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial data to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships across departments and drive cross-functional initiatives.
  • Highly proficient in word processing, database, and spreadsheet software to support financial system design and reporting enhancements.

The salary range is $85,987 - $143,962. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and relevant experience.
