Job Summary

Please note: This is 1 year contract that offers full-benefits (medical, dental, vision, retirement savings available).
Principal Disability Analyst will work with St. Mary's, Saint Francis, and Oakland Benioff Children's hospitals to conduct a needs analysis to identify gaps, barriers, and opportunities regarding the interactive process for non-occupational injuries and illnesses in order to control the costs of disability, reduce lost time, and balance the business needs of UCSF and the needs of staff with disabilities. This position conducts managerial training, creates resources and tools, and assists in the development of modified and alternate duty positions. This position serves as a management liaison and as a direct service provider to the employees and departments in the interactive process and reasonable accommodation. This position also serves as a consultant to LOA Representatives, Ergonomics, Labor and Employee Relations, and other HR representatives on state and federal disability laws (FEHA, ADA, PWFA, EEOC). Background and four (4) years' experience in disability management and/or human resources in a large organization are crucial to success in this role.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $111,900 - $167,900 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

Disability Management Services (DMS) is housed within UCSF Human Resources and serves both campus and health system employees, managers, and human resources professionals to facilitate the interactive process and reasonable accommodation.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or 4 years equivalent experience/training in human resources, workers' compensation, vocational rehabilitation, and/or case management
  • Knowledge of common organization-specific computer application programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Understanding of supplemental disability benefits
  • Advanced knowledge in the following areas: risk management as it pertains to managing disability or leave of absence; knowledge of organizational processes or procedures; or advanced knowledge of applicable state or federal laws or regulations including Americans With Disabilities Act Amendment Act (ADA), or Fair Employment or Housing Act (FEHA), or Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), or California Family Rights Act (CFRA), or Pregnancy Workers' Fairness Act (PWFA)
  • Advanced knowledge of disability management practices and programs to consult with department directors, managers, and supervisors regarding reasonable accommodation, and the interactive process
  • Knowledge of the medical and psychosocial impact of various disabling conditions to facilitate development of temporary and permanent accommodations, identify employee capacity to perform essential job functions in light of work restrictions, and review available workplace and ergonomic interventions
  • Effective interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, active listening skills and effective team leadership skills
  • Ability to present complex risk findings and make recommendations in a clear concise manner both in writing and verbally
  • Effective analytical and problem solving skills, critical thinking ability
  • Expert ability to develop course materials on reasonable accommodation and deliver content effectively to diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications


  • Certified Disability Management Services (CDMS) or Certified Professional In Disability Management (CPDM)
  • Human resources certification (PHR, SPHR)
  • Experience working in a hospital or other health care facility
