Summary




We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Team Lead - Cargo & Accident Claims to oversee the day-to-day processing of cargo and accident claims within our trucking operations. This role will serve as the primary liaison between internal departments, insurance partners, and external stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant claim resolution.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience managing claims in a transportation environment, a strong understanding of compliance requirements, and the ability to lead and develop a small but growing team.





Duties and Responsibilities





  • Oversee daily intake, investigation, and resolution of cargo loss/damage and accident claims.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation, claim file management, and submission to insurers or legal teams.
  • Review submitted claims for completeness, regulatory compliance, and alignment with company policy.
  • Monitor claim timelines and escalate high severity, delayed, or disputed cases to appropriate leadership.
  • Serve as the working lead for a team of claims coordinators or specialists.
  • Assign workloads, provide real-time guidance, and ensure deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Mentor and train team members on claim handling procedures, documentation best practices, and systems usage.
  • Assist in updating and enforcing SOPs for cargo and accident claims handling.
  • Act as a central point of contact for operations, terminal managers, safety, HR, and legal during claim investigations.
  • Provide direction and support to drivers and field teams on incident reporting requirements and claim processes.
  • Coordinate directly with insurance adjusters, third-party investigators, and legal counsel as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the company's claims tracking system or database.
  • Assist in tracking claim trends, identifying repeat issues, and supporting continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ensure all claims are managed in compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and internal company policies.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and answering compliance-related questions.
  • Identify trends related to claim types, root causes, or preventable losses and share findings with Safety and Operations teams.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and contribute feedback for driver training or corrective action planning.
  • Recommend improvements to claims workflows that support efficiency, reduce risk, and improve cost control.



Skills & Competencies



  • Solid understanding of cargo and accident claim procedures in a transportation or logistics environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry regulations (DOT, FMCSA) and insurance claims processes.
  • Ability to lead, organize, and develop team members while managing your own caseload.
  • Effective communicator with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify trends and propose practical solutions.
  • Familiarity with claims tracking systems, Microsoft Excel, and shared file management platforms.





Educational background / Work experience / Qualifications



  • 3-5+ years of experience handling cargo and/or accident claims in the transportation or trucking industry.
  • Prior experience in a lead or supervisory capacity is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory and insurance compliance as it relates to trucking.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in business, logistics, or insurance is a plus.



Language Skills



  • Business fluent in English
  • Preferably good command of local language



Computer Literacy



  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and others)
  • Experience with claims databases, TMS, or ELD platforms is a plus.



Physical and/or Mental Requirements / Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand. The employee is often required to walk and use hand and eye coordination. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Hours and Environment

Normal working hours for this position are Monday - Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, however, working beyond these hours will often be required by business needs.

For this position, the expected base pay is:$25.50-$33.25 / Hourly. Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, geographical location, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
