The Blueprint (Role Profile)

The General Machining role is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of machining tools and equipment to produce precision parts and components. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read technical documents, and the use of inspection tools to ensure product quality and compliance with safety standards.

The Build (Responsibilities)

  • Setup and operate machining operations such as drilling, tapping, coining, broaching, and conventional milling using various machining equipment.
  • Make standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tolling, feeds and speed of machining.
  • Read, interpret, follow blueprints, diagrams, engineered drawings, travelers, bill of materials and other written instructions.
  • Use required inspection methods and gages to ensure quality.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition, and follow plant safety rules.
  • All other duties as assigned.

The Toolbox (Qualifications)

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Technical school certificate; or 1-year related experience and/or training drilling, tapping, coining, broaching, and conventional milling.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to continually stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms (overhead reaching), push or pull and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
