Job Description

Johnson County's Department of Technology and Innovation (DTI) delivers innovative and reliable technology solutions and services to advance the objectives of County staff, elected officials, and the community in a cost effective and efficient manner. DTI is looking to fill the position of Endpoint Engineer (System Administrator I). This position will be part of the Endpoint Engineering team focused on ensuring all the supported endpoint devices, such as desktops, laptops, thin clients, and tablets, are proactively and strategically managed, and continues to be secure, patched, and supported.

This position will remain open until filled, but a first review of applications will begin on July 14, 2025.

The Endpoint Engineer (System Administrator I) position is responsible for software installations and deployments, patch management on endpoints, and overall client management. Additional duties include the following:

    Establishes system specifications by conferring with users; analyzes workflow, access, information, and security requirements. Develops tactical solutions for routine system support, by resolving day-to-day problems for end users of Microsoft Active Directory and other 3rd party applications.
  • Confers with vendors; develops, tests, evaluates, and installs enhancements and new software. Develops system access; monitors, controls, and evaluates system performance for integrity of data through proper security groups, email distribution lists, external accounts, resource accounts and system permissions; maintains Active Directory user/email accounts through security requests and identifies unused accounts to ensure application of security practices and policies; establishes and tests disaster recovery policies and procedures; completes back-ups, restores information as necessary; maintains documentation.
  • Maintains system performance of physical and VMWare virtual servers by performing system monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning; installs and upgrades new Windows server hardware and software; applies patches, hot fixes and Service Packs; troubleshoots system hardware, software, networks and systems management; designs and runs system load/stress testing; escalates application problems to vendor.
  • Develops system access; monitors, controls, and evaluates system performance; establishes and tests disaster recovery policies and procedures; completes back-ups; maintains documentation. Plans, documents and implements projects for new technology and system functionality; coordinates work with other team members for timely completion; analyzes the network server infrastructure for capacity planning.


Job Requirements

Associate's degree in the following field(s) of study: Information Technology or related field and two (2) years work experience in systems design, programming, systems software and support are required.

Experience with Microsoft Office 365, SCCM, Antivirus Administration, and a Bachelor's degree in the following field(s) of study: Information Technology or related field are preferred.

Experience can substitute for education.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions.

This position is currently eligible to work in a hybrid work environment with both onsite and remote work, after initial training period. Residency within the Kansas City-Overland Park-Kansas City, MO-KS Combined Statistical Area, which generally includes the Kansas counties of Johnson, Wyandotte, Leavenworth, Miami, and Linn, and the Missouri counties of Jackson, Clay, Platte, Cass, and Ray, is required.
