PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Director of Lift Maintenance is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational oversight, and technical excellence of lift maintenance operations across the entire resort. This role ensures the safety, reliability, and compliance of all aerial and surface lift systems while fostering a culture of safety, innovation, and team development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the lift maintenance department.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate lift maintenance personnel.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate interdepartmental collaboration and communication.
  • Promote employee development and performance optimization.


Maintenance Operations & Technical Oversight

  • Oversee daily, seasonal, and long-term maintenance of all lift systems (fixed grip, detachable, gondolas, trams, conveyors).
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • Ensure proper documentation of maintenance activities and inspections.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of lift systems, tools, and technologies.
  • Supervise emergency repairs and special projects.


Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with ANSI B77, OSHA, state tramway boards, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Participate in safety committees and lead safety initiatives.
  • Maintain strong relationships with inspectors, manufacturers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and enforce safety protocols and training programs.


Financial & Project Management

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, staffing models, and capital needs in alignment with resort priorities
  • Analyze performance metrics to inform resource allocation, drive efficiency, and reduce costs without compromising quality
  • Coordinate procurement and inventory management of operational supplies


Communication & Strategic Planning

  • Communicate effectively with resort leadership and stakeholders.
  • Align lift maintenance goals with broader resort objectives.
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes.
  • Contribute to long-term planning and innovation in lift operations.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in lift maintenance, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Deep technical knowledge of lift systems (fixed grip, detachable, gondolas, trams, conveyors).
  • Experience with lift construction, rigging, and project management.
  • Strong understanding of ANSI B77, OSHA, and applicable state tramway regulations.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and drive operational excellence.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and maintenance management systems.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and at heights.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineering background or state engineering certification.
  • Experience with Yan, Doppelmayr, and other major lift manufacturers.
  • Heavy equipment certifications (e.g., Crane, Class A/B license).
  • Experience working across multiple resort locations or large-scale operations.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in extreme weather conditions.
  • Capable of climbing lift towers and operating snowmobiles and other resort vehicles.


DATES OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Full time, year round


PAY RATE:

  • Pay: $120,000 - 130,000 per year
