We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Li-Ion Cell Product Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Cell Product Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the development and testing of next-generation lithium-ion battery cells. You will be responsible for designing, building, and testing prototype battery cells, as well as optimizing their performance for various applications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the advancements of Stellantis's electrification efforts through hands-on cell development and advanced data analysis capabilities.

Main responsibilities include:



  • Maintain Cell destructive and non destructive analysis and tools
  • Work in the Dry Environment to carry out the cell and materials investigations
  • Up-Keep Cell design, engineering and cell assembly station (electrode coating, winding or stacking, welding, packaging and formation)
  • Relate processes documentation in conformance to corporate standards
  • Manage lab activities in support of department goals
  • Develop comprehensive cell design specifications and Bill of Materials (BOM) for prototype cells
  • Create detailed cost analysis and materials sourcing documentation for cell development projects
  • Collaborate with virtual engineering teams to develop and maintain digital twins for cell designs and manufacturing processes


Additional Responsibilities:



  • Conduct the investigations related to Li ion cell design, performance, development and build
  • As part of the cell development team the individual must be able to self-direct for tasks that they are responsible for, while working in a cross functional environment
  • Work with the Stellantis advanced development team to down select the appropriate cathode, anode, electrolyte and separator to design the platform cells
  • Develop detailed cell design calculations, electrode sizing, and capacity predictions using engineering analysis tools
  • Create comprehensive materials databases and maintain detailed records of cell compositions, performance data, and design parameters
  • Work closely with virtual engineering teams to develop software twins that accurately represent physical cell behavior and performance characteristics
  • Collaborate on manufacturing twins development to optimize production processes and quality control systems
  • Work with manufacturing teams to run the design for manufacturability reviews
  • Engage with raw materials group within Stellantis and materials suppliers to understand the materials capabilities and requirements
  • Perform detailed data analysis of cell testing results, identify performance trends, and create technical reports with statistical analysis
  • Support digital twin validation by correlating physical test data with virtual model predictions
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to cell performance and manufacturing processes
  • Develop automated data collection and analysis workflows for cell characterization and performance evaluation
  • Contribute to manufacturing twin calibration using real-world production data and process parameters
  • Develop and follow the cell testing and validation protocols and work with tests team to establish the testing plan, review the results, analyze and report the data
  • Create detailed cost models and supply chain analysis for different cell chemistries and designs
  • Interface with digital engineering teams to ensure software twins accurately reflect material properties, cell geometry, and performance characteristics
  • Continuously improve cell design and manufacturing processes to enhance energy density, cycle life, and safety as per performance requirements
  • Maintain detailed documentation systems and develop technical tools to support cell development activities and digital twin development
  • Support virtual engineering initiatives by providing physical validation data for digital twin models
  • Be able both a sense of urgency while maintaining the overall goal of the activities
  • May require travel and extended hours to support of activities, up to and including weekends

Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related degree field
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a related field
  • 1 year of experience in Python and Matlab


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's Degree in Engineering
