Position Information

New Hanover County is seeking experienced Forensic Lab professional to join the Sheriff's Office as a Forensic Chemist (Seized Drug/Blood Alcohol Analysis). This position is responsible for performing forensic analysis of physical evidence related to criminal investigations. Duties include conducting laboratory testing of evidence by using established procedures, methods, and databases; calibrating and testing lab equipment to ensure accuracy; documenting laboratory results and prepares written reports; testifying in court by serves as an expert witness, and preparing exhibits for courtroom use; researching and developing new lab technologies, integrating accredited lab standards and policies; and performing maintenance of equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper working order.
The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office is the principal law enforcement agency of New Hanover County, providing service to over 200,000 people within 185 square miles. The Sheriff's Office patrols the county, investigates crimes, apprehends criminals, and provides custody or control for arrested defendants, both pre-trial and sentenced. The Sheriff is responsible for courtroom security, service of civil process, transportation of prisoners and mental patients, and service of criminal papers.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Forensic Science, and two (2) years of experience working in a similar structured setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Operating under a 17025 accredited Lab is a plus.

Hours: Monday - Friday with occasional work events on nights and weekends. Candidate must be available for after hour calls and to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations. Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-exempt
Salary Information: The salary for this position ranges from $56,3581 - $95,797. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations. New Hanover County offers:
