Position Overview

By Light has openings for Network Design Engineers to join our team supporting a DOD customer. A Network Design Engineer (NDE) is competent in all aspects of the design of network systems. An NDE receives a network implementation requirement and develops a comprehensive solution for the on-time and under-budget deployment of the service or capability. He/She works with various government and non-government Points of Contact to fully integrate the implementation requirement within existing infrastructure while minimizing risk to active systems. Customer network systems are composed of Cisco 15454, Ciena 6500, Sycamore SN16000-SN9000, and Juniper routers.



Responsibilities

    Site Survey's, Designs and implements complex networks that typically link numerous computing platforms, operating systems and network topologies across widely dispersed geographical areas.
  • The implementation of engineering processes that provide for timely and appropriate integration of all engineering disciplines to ensure a network system design that meets all requirements
  • Identifies problems and risk areas and mitigates their impact
  • Performs technical design reviews
  • Provides functional guidance, supervision, technical support, training and quality assurance/quality control to Associate and Intermediate personnel
  • Supports senior staff as required and ensures customer requirements and project milestones are met
  • Perform engineering analysis of Government Furnished Information (System Engineering Designs [SEDs], Optical Waveplans, Fiber Transition & Node Insertion Plans, Backbone Plans, Timing and Synchronization [T&S] Solutions, Data Communications Network [DCN] Classified and Unclassified Solutions, Athena Suite Engineering Designs, Internet Protocol Network Designs for Classified and Unclassified Networks, Customer Circuit Transition Solutions, Methods of Procedures, Test and Acceptance Specifications/Parameters, Telecommunications Service Orders [TSOs]) and produce the products/results specified:
    • Analyze requirements and identify engineering and design gaps and/or discrepancies, develop and present solutions or Courses of Actions (COAs) as input to Corrective Action Planning
    • Develop and maintain an Engineering Plan as input to the Project Implementation Management Plan which includes a technically executable Circuit Transition Plan and Decommissioning Plan
    • Create a baseline and maintain version control to document changes
    • Develop Implementation Requests (IRs)
    • Develop on site or desktop Site Survey Reports (SSRs)
    • Develop Telecommunications Site Implementation Plans (TSIPs)
    • Develop Sequence of Events (SOE) as input to Methods of Procedures (MOPs)
    • Develop a Work Breakdown Structure as input to the Project Implementation Plan and Microsoft Project Master Schedule
    • Identify dependencies as inputs to a Microsoft Project Master Schedule and Project Management Network Diagrams, to identify Critical Path, opportunities and risk to schedule
    • Identify Installation Bill of Materials (IBOMs)
    • Identify additional Main Bill of Materials (MBOMs)
    • Identify ancillary equipment required to terminate network and customer circuits from end to end including the last half mile, tie cables and extensions from commercial demarcation points
    • Plan, document, coordinate physical connection installation/relocation of network circuits to include physical connection installation/relocation actions at distant end locations and coordinate with the Project Manager, Implementation Managers and Provisioning Manager to request and obtain accurate and technically correct Telecommunications Service Requests (TSOs)


Required Experience/Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience with Juniper/Cisco/Ciena/Sycamore(Coriant) products.
  • Related industry experience in information technology or engineering.
  • Working knowledge Microsoft Office Tools; specifically, Visio & Excel.
  • Excellent communication, effective leadership and interpersonal skills.


Preferred Experience/Qualifications

  • Experience working with DISA is highly desired.
  • BICSI Certification is desired but not required
  • Working knowledge of AC/DC Power systems and grounding.
  • OEM networking certifications is desired but not required
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher is desired but not required


Special Requirements/Security Clearance

  • Minimum DOD Secret clearance required
