Job Description
The Roast and Grind operator is responsible for providing continuous flow of the coffee within the Westrock Collins Plant. This position is responsible for working with the R&G team to operate automated coffee processing equipment to manufacture roasted and ground coffee. This individual will develop a deep understanding of raw green coffee cleaning, coffee roasting, and coffee grinding techniques. The R&G operator will report to the Roasting Manager.
Job Duties:


  • Utilize manufacturing execution systems and computer software to perform production.
  • Manages the storage and handling of green coffee in the storage warehouse.
  • Set up green loading commands and maintain inventory in the green bean silos.
  • Operate green cleaning and loading equipment to prepare green coffee for roasting.
  • Operate roasters to produce roasted coffee to meet the production requirements and confirm that the roast time and temperatures are within specifications for each coffee roast profile.
  • Operate grinding equipment to create ground coffee to grind specifications.
  • Operate supersack filling stations to prepare the coffee for packaging.
  • Operate pallet moving equipment to stage coffee in the correct location.
  • Complete all logs, forms, and checklist required during shift.
  • Perform real-time quality checks of each batch to ensure that it meets quality standards.
  • Monitor equipment for proper performance and troubleshoot when problems arise.
  • Elevate needs to R&G lead to maintain the flow of work.
  • Operate a forklift and other material moving equipment in accordance with safety requirements.
  • Conduct necessary transactions using ERP systems to record production data.
  • Perform scheduled cleaning and maintenance on equipment.
  • Take part in sensory analysis of roasted blends to maintain roasted profiles.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, standards, safety and GMP requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership team.

Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or GED
  • Food & Beverage or related manufacturing experience
  • Experience in monitoring product quality.
  • Certified forklift experience.
  • Strong mathematical skills using percentages and fractions while working with recipes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, MES systems, and ERP systems.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanics and thermodynamics.
  • Knowledge of inventory control systems.
  • Willingness and desire to develop by gaining coffee industry specific qualifications (Q-grader, SCAA Coffee certifications, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers.
  • Ability to understand department documents and reports.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
