Position Overview:We are a $3B global eCommerce leader serving millions of customers across a vast and technically complex product catalog. As we scale our digital experience, we are seeking a strategic and customer-obsessed Director of Digital Category Experience to lead the end-to-end optimization of our online product category experiences. In this critical leadership role, you will shape how customers discover, evaluate, and interact with products across the digital journey-from search results and navigation to product detail pages and associated product recommendations.
You will lead a cross-functional team and partner closely with UX, Digital Product Owners, IT, Technical Product Content, Product Data Management, SEO, Analytics, Customer Insights, and Engineering to deliver personalized, data-informed experiences that drive product discovery, conversion, customer satisfaction, and business growth. Responsibilities:
  • Customer-Centric

    • Champion the voice of the engineer and create and track KPIs centered around improving customer product selection

  • Category Experience Strategy

    • Define and own the strategy for optimizing product category experiences online

    • Lead customization efforts by product category, ensuring content, structure, and layout are tailored to customer needs and product characteristics

  • Search, Navigation & Discovery

    • Partner with product and UX teams to evolve category navigation, filters, and search results for improved relevance and usability

    • Test and measure strategies for reducing friction in the path to selection

    • Oversee strategies for search results by search term type, intelligent product sorting, and localization by user location

    • Drive improvements to search relevance, product findability, and conversion by partnering with UX, SEO, and digital product teams

  • Product Information Optimization

    • Collaborate with PIM and digital asset teams to improve completeness and accuracy

    • Develop and implement new data source for existing legacy product associations

    • Develop and refine rules and strategies for cross-selling and up-selling

  • Leadership & Team Development

    • Build and lead a high-performing team of merchandisers, strategists, and analysts

    • Foster a high-performance culture with strong analytical rigor, operational discipline, technical expertise, and creative problem solving

    • Establish clear goals, KPIs, and development paths for team members

  • Data-Driven Decision Making

    • Leverage customer insights, behavioral analytics, and A/B testing to continuously optimize category performance

    • Own key metrics including conversion rate, product discovery rate, bounce rate, and category-level revenue performance

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Serve as the connective tissue between IT, Product Owners, UX, SEO, and engineering teams

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in eCommerce leadership, with a strong focus on digital merchandising, category management, or site experience

  • Proven ability to lead customer-centric strategies that optimize the product discovery and decision journey

  • Demonstrated success in optimizing large-scale digital catalogs for performance, discoverability, and conversion

  • Strong understanding of Search, PIM systems, site optimization, and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Contentsquare)

  • Experience with A/B and multivariate testing programs with a deep understanding of customer behavior data

  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to build, inspire, and scale high-performing teams.

  • Analytical mindset with a bias for action and continuous improvement

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills; able to influence cross-functional stakeholders and executives

  • Passion for delivering exceptional digital shopping experiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in large-scale eCommerce environments (global or omnichannel preferred)

  • Experience with merchandising products for b2b or technical/engineering customers

Physical Requirements:
  • Generally, spend the workday sitting at a workstation and operating computer devices, such as, but not limited to keyboard, mouse and screen

  • Generally, spend the workday performing repetitive motions that involve or affect the hands, head, and other parts of your body

Compensation:

The base pay range for this position is:

$130,000

to

$180,000

Many factors influence the determination of base pay within a range, including the candidate's work experience in related roles; the candidate's knowledge, skills, capabilities, and performance; the relative pay of other DigiKey employees in similar roles; and the budget available for the position.
