Network Engineering Manager
Cooley is seeking a Network Engineering Manager to join the Technology Infrastructure & Development Operations team. Position summary: Cooley Technology embraces a culture of customer service excellence, and all members of the department are expected to move this agenda forward. To that end, as part of the Technology Network Engineering team, the Network Engineering Manager will lead and oversee the design, implementation and maintenance of Cooley's network infrastructure. This position is responsible for managing a technical team in support of troubleshooting complex network infrastructure. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Position responsibilities:
- Lead the design, implementation and maintenance activities for both on-premise and cloud-based network solutions, including LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, datacenter, wireless networks and telephony systems
- Lead the implementation of network management and monitoring tools and processes to ensure system observability and uptime
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures and configuration standards to improve operational efficiency
- Manage cloud connectivity, ensuring secure and seamless access to cloud services including AWS and Azure
- Identify, research, and evaluate emerging network technologies to meet current and future technology needs
- Ensure scalable and efficient network infrastructure that supports current and future business needs; regularly assess capacity, performance and utilization trends
- Oversee incident management and troubleshooting including root cause analysis, resolution documentation and post-incident reviews
- Manage network-related projects including system deployments and upgrades, office buildouts/expansion and hardware refreshes
- Coordinate across Technology groups such as Data Center and Cloud Engineering, Security, DevOps, Enterprise Applications and Enterprise Engineering to ensure network strategies align with Technology and firm initiatives
- Manage relationships with vendors, negotiate contracts, and liaise with internal stakeholders
- Evaluate and procure hardware, licensing and support agreements for networking equipment and systems.
- Participate in budget development and management including forecasting and tracking expenses as well as variance reporting
- Serve as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports to foster skill development and career growth
- Provide day-to-day supervision of direct reports, ensure compliance with assigned work hours and monitor for compliance with all firm and department policies. Manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests
- Support business professional development and continued educational opportunities
- In collaboration with immediate supervisor and CN HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events
- All other duties as assigned or required
Skills and experience: Required:
- After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
- Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
- Ability to travel, as required
- 5+ years experience in network engineering and support
- Senior candidates must have 7+ years applicable experience in the field with 2+ years of exempt/management experience in relevant roles
- Strong understanding of Cisco LAN/WAN architecture and routing protocols
- Strong understanding of Cisco data center networking
- Comprehensive knowledge of Wi-Fi standards, enterprise wireless solutions, RF optimization, and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of hybrid cloud architecture and cloud-to-on-premise integrations
- Understanding of firewall concepts and configuration
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline
- Experience managing and mentoring technical teams
- Experience deploying and managing Cisco SD-WAN
- Experience with Aruba Wireless and Clearpass and/or Meraki wireless
- Experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls and Prisma Access/Remote Networks
- Working knowledge of AWS networking concepts
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code methodology and deployment

Cooley offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package and is committed to fair and equitable employment practices. EOE. The expected annual pay range for this position with a full-time schedule is $155,000 - $205,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate. Senior level candidates may be considered for this position and would be eligible for a higher salary range based on experience.
