As a Software Engineer, you will...

  • Develop concepts, algorithms, and software prototypes to help warfighters better employ the expanding set of complex capabilities and systems at their disposal.
  • Integrate capabilities in novel, unconventional ways.

Qualifications

You meet the minimum qualifications for this position if you...

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or another related field.
  • Have at least five years of relevant experience in complex software development and significant knowledge of C++ and/or JavaScript/TypeScript in a Linux environment.
  • Are highly creative and interested in novel challenges and are a self-starter able to work effectively in a demanding, multi-tasking environment.
  • Have excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Are able to work collaboratively in a close team environment.
  • Have experience working in an Agile development framework.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Possess a Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or another related field.
  • Have at least ten years of experience with complex software development.
  • Have an interest in learning about or experience working with Link-16 and/or other tactical data links.
  • Have an interest in learning about or experience working with signals intelligence, passive or bistatic radar technologies, or sensor data fusion.
  • Have game development experience.
  • Have a strong ability to successfully apply educational background to real-world engineering problems.
  • Have interest and initiative to grow into a leadership position.
  • Are experienced in serving as a Scrum master or equivalent Agile development leadership role.
  • Have experience with Matlab and/or Python.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
