Position Summary
Temporary Part Time Instructor - Academic Communities & LAIS UNM's University College anticipates hiring Temporary Part Time (TPT) faculty during the 2025-26 academic year to teach and/or develop curriculum in the Academic Communities (FYEX, UNIV) and Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts & Integrative Studies (LAIS) programs. FYEX and UNIV (lower division undergraduate) courses are 1-credit, 2-credit, and 3-credit classes focusing on core college success skills, often with a focus on mathematics (Foundational Math), reading (Critical Text Analysis), or other topics. LAIS (upper division undergraduate) courses are 3-credit career preparation classes that provide the foundation needed to select coursework relevant to their career goals and develop professional skills including resume preparation, interviewing, and organizational communication. Instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class they are teaching, including but not limited to meeting with the class during assigned times, content delivery, assignment development, grading assignments, reporting of grades, and assessment of student learning as outlined by the department administration. Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, current course offering matrix, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the Director of Academic Communities or the Director of Liberal Arts & Integrative Studies.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: FYEX/UNIV instructors 1. Bachelor's Degree in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying AND at least 15 graduate credit hours. OR A master's degree or higher in a discipline other than that for which you are applying, and successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying. OR Bachelor's degree in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying AND experience directly related to teaching FYEX or UNIV classes at UNM. 2. A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities. LAIS instructors 1. Master's Degree in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying OR A master's degree or higher in a discipline other than that for which you are applying, and successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying. 2. A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities. Preferred Qualifications: 1. At least 2 years teaching experience. 2. Experience teaching college transition or LAIS classes
