Role Summary

As a Staff Database Administrator, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing both SQL Server and NoSQL databases and the underpinning infrastructure. You will ensure the integrity, performance, and security of our database systems, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support business operations and deliver high-quality data solutions. This position will be located in Normal, IL and report to our Sr. Manager, Factory IT Operations


Responsibilities

  • SQL Server Management:
    • Manage, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server databases to ensure high availability, performance, and scalability.
    • Design and implement database backup and recovery strategies following industry best practices.
    • Monitor database performance and troubleshoot any issues related to SQL Server.
    • Perform database migrations, upgrades, and installations for SQL Server environments.
    • Optimize host hardware, including ESXi tuning and virtual machine-level configuration.
    • Suggest and implement improvements to the use of version control for configuration management of databases.
    • Suggest and implement improvements to change management processes to align with ITIL best practices.
    • Participate in on-call rotation.
  • NoSQL Database Management:
    • Manage, maintain, and optimize NoSQL databases (such as MongoDB, Cassandra, NATS and/or Redis) to support business-critical applications.
    • Design and implement NoSQL data models to ensure high performance, scalability, and data integrity.
    • Monitor NoSQL database performance and optimize queries and storage structures to meet application requirements.
    • Implement backup and recovery solutions for NoSQL databases.
    • Ensure proper security protocols are applied to NoSQL environments.
  • Database Security and High Availability:
    • Develop and enforce database security policies and procedures for both SQL Server and NoSQL environments.
    • Collaborate with teams to implement replication, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies.
    • Provide expertise on database resiliency and support the design of fault-tolerant database architectures.
  • Collaboration and Optimization:
    • Work closely with software development teams to design efficient and effective database schemas, queries, and indexes.
    • Automate routine database tasks using scripts and tools to enhance productivity.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues in both SQL and NoSQL environments.
    • Make recommendations on how to improve database performance across both relational and non-relational platforms.
    • Collaborate with application teams on management of cloud/AWS databases such as RDS, DynamoDB, and DocumentDB.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in database administration, with a strong focus on Microsoft SQL Server and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL Server architecture, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and security.
  • Experience with Databricks integration is a plus.
  • Proficient in T-SQL, database scripting, and query optimization.
  • Strong understanding of NoSQL architecture, including document-based, key-value, columnar, and graph databases.
  • Experience in database clustering, sharding, and replication for both SQL and NoSQL environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range - Illinois Based Applicants: USD - $140,600 - $175,800 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).


Benefits Summary:
Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time and part-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Full Time Employee coverage is effective on the first day of employment. Part-Time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
