The base salary range for a Group Services Specialist I is $36,000 to $54,000. Actual salaries will vary by geographic location and are based on factors such as candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, competencies, and company tenure and equity. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan based on company performance and individual performance.

Group Services Specialist I Overview

The Group Services Specialist I is primarily responsible for the accurate and timely issuance of small group products. This role performs a combination of group set-up, review, and quality assurance activities related to new group issuance, transition activity, and processing of amendments to enforce contracts.

Essential Duties:



  • Reviews proposals, master application, census, and commission information for accuracy and consistency, and determines/verifies class structures for small group products
  • Coordinates with Sales, Brokers, and Partners to receive completed, accurate paperwork and information
  • Responsible for the setup and review of group products, policies, certificates, and census in the administration system
  • Documents differences and exceptions for upstream presentation to drive improvement and change behaviors
  • Adds group employees to the system to generate an accurate first bill
  • Reconciles the first bill to ensure accuracy in all areas, such as employee names, departments, benefits, rates, and premiums
  • Completes quality assurance reviews on completed work including verification of the group installation on the administrative system by comparing proposal and master application, review of class structure and associated certificates, validation of the corrections letter, review of fulfillment package including non-insurance products, and certification of the first billing
  • Reviews amendment submission and coordinates with group, Sales, Brokers, and Partners to receive completed, accurate paperwork for the request change
  • Completes system work associated with the customer amendment request and generates the amendment once the system work is completed.
  • Analyzes current contract language and filing to ensure the change is within company variable and administering guidelines and ensures changes do not negatively impact customer billing or future claim processing
  • Analyzes transition group information from old contract to new contract to ensure the group is not losing any benefits; or setting up the group in a new system to provide updated billing, renewals, or a legacy system removal
  • Completes addition of the group into the new system with accurate demographics, class information, benefit information, member information
  • Completes billing reconciliation and/or delivery of new policies and certificates based on the prior contract setup
  • Assigns cases to analyst that are submitted to Policy Services
  • Identifies and presents process improvement opportunities resulting from quality review process
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Critical thinking skills, ability to multi-task and a self-starter
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft excel skills
  • Intermediate MS Word and PowerPoint Skills
  • Ability to prioritize and work within time constraints


Required Education and Experience:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Or, equivalent military experience


Preferred Education and Experience:



  • Associates Degree in a business-related field
  • 2+ years of Insurance industry experience


Working Conditions (Physical Demands):

Normal, no adverse or hazardous conditions
