Job Description

Position Summary:

This role is primarily focused on the introduction of new product, and improvements in the introduction process - from customer through first-time manufacture. In this role, the employee will have ownership over the introductory process within the engineering team, will work with sales and the customer to ensure requirements are met, and work with both Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to ensure the necessary process controls exist for manufacturing. Also, in this role the employee will use project management tools to track and implement strategic projects. In cases where testing or product validation is required, the Product Engineer I will develop test plans with the customer and will coordinate the testing with the R&D Lab team.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Introductory product lifecycle management - from customer through manufacturing onboarding of new product
    • Test plans or statements of work for the creation of test plans to validate product will meet customer requirements through coordination with the Engineering R&D test lab
    • Working with the Sales team to ensure the correct items are identified and that internal Engineering requirements are understood prior to order entry
    • New Product Introduction (NPI) and Item setup in the ERP system
    • Internal manufacturing drawing creation/coordination and creation of process specifications, if required
    • Defining Key Characteristics for product manufacturing and setup/coordination of SPC Plans with the Mfg. Engineering team to ensure customer requirements are met
    • Working with Mfg. Engineering to ensure raw materials or forging requirements are defined
  • Good project management skills
    • Maintain clear, concise, and structured project trackers, with milestones, for strategic onboarding projects, including actions, owners, due dates, and financial opportunity
    • Write clear and concise statements of work for customer-driven or new product development and introduction projects
  • Drive continuous improvement of Engineering team administrative processes, such as engineering change orders, new product introduction, drawing creation/release, project requests from sales/customer/manufacturing, R&D lab production support, workflow processes, project requests, and creation of procedures
  • Create engineering report-outs and presentations to senior management on major projects, including intelligently walking through project timelines, milestones, metrics or KPI's, and the action plan/next steps
  • Develop a detailed working knowledge of the fluid fittings product design, application, and manufacturing, and be able to perform true root-cause-analysis with teams of Engineers and members of other departments when deviations from process/procedure occur
  • Writing and releasing work instructions, process specifications, and operating procedures related to plant engineering activities and technical manufacturing requirements
  • May occasionally perform special duties or projects, as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • B.S. in an Engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of Engineering experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
  • A track-record of working on successful, results-driven engineering projects
  • Project management experience with successful project outcomes
  • Firm skill-set with the Microsoft Suite - Excel, Word, Visio, Powerpoint, and Project
  • Experience creating Solidmodels and Drawings using Solidworks or CATIA
  • Experience in managing product data (drawings, models, processes, procedures) using a PDM software
  • Experience in developing and working with test plans for validation or development of new product, and for trouble-shooting existing product.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, both within the organization and with customers or vendors/suppliers
  • Ability to work well with individuals inside and outside of the organization
  • Mechanically-oriented, and having demonstrated hand-on mechanical abilities
  • Fundamental Microsoft Windows computer skills, including but not limited to, organized management of file folders, shared files, managing file types, and desktop setup
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and draw conclusions from complex data or information
  • Ability to apply rigorous logic and scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
  • Ability to Create and Interpret Engineering Drawings, including GD&T, and ability to work with Solidworks or CATIA solid models
  • Ability to interpret and produce well-written, clear, and concise technical procedures.
  • Previous design, product development, and product lifecycle management experience a plus
  • Exposure to Design for Six Sigma and/or Lean/Six Sigma training (either formal, or informal) preferred

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $85000 to $105000 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 2X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter . Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.
