The pharmacy resident position is a 1-year appointment to complete an ASHP/APhA accredited community-based pharmacy residency. Meijer offers diverse experiences designed to prepare a pharmacy school graduate to become a leader in community pharmacy practice. The pharmacy resident will develop skills in pharmacy practice by completing longitudinal learning experiences in academia, ambulatory care, administration, outcomes-based research, patient care services, and service. In addition, pharmacy residents will participate in a number of community events, perform a variety of patient care services, and complete formal teaching and pharmacy business leadership certificate programs embedded into the residency.
What You'll be Doing:
- During the academic experience, the resident will assist in precepting and evaluating clerkship students on their P4 Advanced Community clerkship. The resident will gain experience with teaching in classroom/small group settings through presentations completed at practice sites and within the associated college of pharmacy.
- During the administration experience, the resident will participate in administrative rounds, where s/he will meet with various corporate-based pharmacy personnel and will become familiar with their roles and responsibilities. The pharmacy resident will complete projects in conjunction with their administrative preceptor to improve
- During the outcomes-based research experience, the resident will design, conduct and evaluate a comprehensive community pharmacy-based research project to be presented at pharmacy conferences.
- During the patient care services experience, the resident will take ownership of the medication therapy management (MTM) program at the primary practice site and other sites as necessary. In addition, the resident will become proficient in administering immunizations and clinical health screenings, including tests conducted for cholesterol, hemoglobin A1C and others as applicable. As a member of Meijer Pharmacy's Clinical team, the resident will engage in a variety of clinical program development and implementation activities and also be involved with clinical program decision-making
- During the service experience, the resident will perform regular dispensing and patient counseling activities while functioning in the role of a staff pharmacist at the primary practice site. This experience requires that the resident become proficient in the use of all pharmacy information systems, effectively manages pharmacy staff, understand and adhere to all pharmacy policies and procedures, and appropriately utilize the pharmacy's drug procurement process.
- Advanced Academia, Advanced Administration and Specialty Pharmacy rotations are offered.
- Residents must meet satisfactory progress or achieve all learning objectives set forth by ASHP/APhA for accredited community-based pharmacy residencies.
- Upon successful program completion, residents will be skilled practitioners prepared to enter certain PGY2 residency programs, or obtain positions in academia, ambulatory patient care, clinical community pharmacy and others.
What You Bring with You (Qualifications):
- Required Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE-accredited institution.
- Must have all requirements for the ASHP/APhA match program: letter of intent, 3 letters of recommendation, official transcripts and eligibility for licensure in Michigan and match through the national PhORCAS system.
