BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 28 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC in Tallahassee office was established in 2015 and has resettled over 1,500 refugees from 50 countries into Big Bend communities.

SCOPE OF COMPREHENSIVE REFUGEE SERVIE INTERN WORK: The major goal of the Comprehensive Refugee Service (CRS) is to ensure services are delivered according to the IRC and Department of Children and Families (DCF) stipulated contract. The main motto for the CRS program is Safety, Service and Compliance. Types of clients include Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Parolees. Clients are mainly received from Reception and Placement (R&P), Matching Grant or DCF including walk-in clients. This position requires a minimum commitment of 15 hours a week for at least three months. The hours for this position are flexible; however, will primarily be between 9AM and 5PM on weekdays, with occasional weekend activities. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The CRS Intern will assist the CRS team with the following tasks:

  • Help with document management, including scanning and filing documents

  • Complete data entry and note taking tasks

  • Assist clients with developing their problem-solving skills, empowering them to handle situations independently and supporting their self-sufficiency

  • Accompany caseworkers to appointments and support them with service delivery

  • Adhere to all IRC work ethics while serving clients

  • Collaborate effectively with CRS staff and external community providers partnered with CRS.

  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and special staff development programs.

  • Organized with attention to detail

  • Creativity and initiative to follow through on projects

  • Strong desire to help people and enthusiasm for working in a multi-cultural setting

  • Strong technical skills

  • Submit volunteer hours on volunteer dashboard

This is a hybrid role.

The internship will be filled on a rolling basis. We will continue to accept applications until August 8th, 2025, or until the position is filled, whichever occurs first. Internship will begin the week of September 8th, 2025.

This position reports to the Casework Supervisor.
