We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician for our LaPorte, TX facilities.

The facility assets include HyCO/Syngas plant, an Air Separation Unit, and a Liquid Hydrogen unit. These units provide a variety of industrial gas products to Air Products extensive array of customers through various pipelines and truck loading stations. A background in maintaining pumps, mechanical seals, vessels, filters, strainers, exchangers, piping, relief valves, gear drives, and reciprocating and centrifugal compressors or turbines is essential for this position. The LaPorte facility is a 24/7 operation and incumbent must be willing to work overtime as required, and willing to take 24-hour on call responsibilities on a rotating basis.

The Maintenance Mechanical Technician / Millwright will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting all equipment. You will provide necessary technical and hands on support to continuously improve plant rotating and stationary equipment integrity, reliability, cost, and on-stream performance.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Ability to perform alignments (Rotalign Pro or equivalent) and ability to read drawings.
  • Knowledge of various pumps, compressors, and equipment lubrication practices & procedures.
  • SAP or equivalent experience CMMS system a plus.
  • Demonstrate the practice of safe handling of hand tools and hand power tools typically and commonly used in maintenance tasks.
  • Practice and demonstrate working knowledge of safe rigging and lifting procedures.
  • Understand the properties, behaviors, and hazards of the equipment.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate actively in department/plant safety programs.
  • Promote safety rules and regulations as well as environmental compliance.
  • Perform and/or supervise routine and breakdown inspection, repair, troubleshooting, modification, installation and commissioning of mechanical equipment such as centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, cryogenic pumps, gear drives, steam turbines, vessels, heat exchangers, centrifugal expanders.
  • Develop work scopes for equipment repair and overhaul.
  • Provide the necessary technical leadership to continuously improve machinery condition and reliability.
  • Develop worn component refurbishment procedures and follow through on repairs and spare parts replacements based on Machinery Engineering recommendations.
  • Update and/or create maintenance manual/procedures for certain equipment as needed.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of minor and major shutdowns.
  • Provide technical and hands on support as required during shutdowns.
  • Expectation to become an Air Products crane lift supervisor, to include rigging and flagging qualifications.
  • Drive company vehicles safely.

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

  • Five (5) years minimum experience in maintenance, start-up, and commissioning of industrial rotating machinery and plant equipment.
  • Ability to perform alignments (Rotalign or equivalent) and read drawings.
  • Knowledge of various pumps and compressors.
  • Knowledge of equipment lubrication practices & procedures.
  • Working knowledge of basic word processing, email, and spreadsheet programs a plus.
  • Practical knowledge of machinery overhauls and refurbishment
  • Good organizational skills, the ability to work alone if necessary, and the ability to lead a crew.
  • Validated safe work skills, fundamental computer skills and the ability to work extended hours. On call rotation and must be willing to work overtime
  • Must be able to learn how to operate facility forklifts, manlift and shop overhead crane.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in an industrial environment which includes climbing ladders and steps in elevated work, get on scaffolding, get on manlift type equipment and wear PPE such as full body harness.
  • Must be able to wear supplied air and air purifying respiratory protection.
  • Able to work in confined spaces.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
