Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, is seeking an experienced Asset Improvement Engineer for its LaPorte, TX facility. The Air Products La Porte Facility is a large multi-unit, multi-product facility supplying the following in various delivery methods: Hydrogen, Carbon Monoxide, Steam, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Argon and Xenon.

The La Porte Asset Improvement Engineer will drive the development and implementation of improvement initiatives across the site with the goal of enhancing asset reliability, optimizing work processes and management systems, and increasing profitability. This role will report to the La Porte Operations Area Manager. You will work closely with the La Porte HyCO, ASU/LHY, Maintenance, Facilities, Engineering and Business teams to find opportunities to streamline work, prioritize current process gaps, develop new tools, and implement solutions. By focusing on optimizing cost, performance, and reliability, your role will enhance the competitive position of the La Porte facility.

Required Skills / Abilities:
  • Broad strategic thinker, with a clear vision and direction to improve asset performance,
  • Manufacturing experience,
  • Black Belt or Green Belt LSS certification a plus,
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement tools/techniques/methods (e.g. Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, Agile, etc.),
  • Ability to understand and evaluate complex process and equipment related performance
  • Sophisticated problem-solving skills. Identify and recommend alternative solutions and translate complex concepts into simplified and understandable examples,
  • Sophisticated project management skills including oversight of project teams, resource identification, budgets, scheduling, and planning,
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety in all aspects of the job,
  • Become familiar with the La Porte Facility equipment, product supply schemes, regulatory compliance requirements, organizational structure and work processes,
  • Work in conjunction with our Operations, Maintenance, Business and Engineering teams and your manager to establish the portfolio of asset improvement initiatives,
  • Prioritize, own, drive, and complete the portfolio of initiatives for the La Porte Facility,
  • Handle the execution of small to medium sized projects and coordinate with Project Engineering resources to facilitate the execution of more complex projects,
  • Evaluate historical causes of production deficiencies and develop and implement actions to address,
  • Plan for aged asset life extensions and perform Failure Mode and Effect Analyses (FMEA) to recommend proactive investment to maintain equipment performance,
  • Identify long lead components and obsolete equipment to ensure our sparing philosophy adequately supports our reliability goals,
  • Participate in and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) events to inject a long-term reliability view into those events,
  • Develop tools to bring clarity to metrics related to asset performance
  • Collect and analyze data. Provide actionable insights, identify trends, and measure the results of improvements,
  • Build business cases for initiatives including problem statement, impact, scope, and benefits,
  • Document equipment information, compliance requirements and work processes for ease of training and knowledge transfer
Minimum Hiring Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in maintenance, engineering, and/or operations roles.
  • Experience in reliability and/or process improvement roles is a plus,
  • Proficient with processes and software tools that aid the evaluation and communication of performance initiatives, including RCA and FMEA software, process trending software, Microsoft Office Products, SAP and Qlik tools.
  • Ability to work independently as well as to lead and participate on multi-functional teams.
  • Ability to lead multiple priorities, drive issues to completion, and obtain results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to inform and influence key partners on sophisticated issues.
