The laboratory of Dr. Amanda Dudek in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is seeking a full-timePost-Baccalaureate Research Intern. The intern will work in a research laboratory that uses CRISPR and mechanistic virology to understand how Adeno-associated viral vectors enter the cell. The Dudek lab values team-work, communication, and organizational skills. The intern will develop a research project related to how divergent AAV capsids that do not use the canonical receptor, AAVR, enter the cell.

Annual Salary $38,755 to commensurate

This position is designed for individuals who:

* Seek training, experience, and mentoring in a research setting

* Plan to pursue a graduate or professional degree in science, medicine, or a related field

* Have US citizenship or permanent residency

Education Required:



  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology,Biomedical Sciences, or related field


Required Qualifications



  • Prior experience working in a virology, microbiology or molecular biology laboratory is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of the following:


o General microbiologic and cell culture techniques

o Standard molecular techniques, including PCR, qPCR, plasmid purification,

bacterial transformation, gelelectrophoresis, western blotting

o Sterile techniques

Desirable Qualifications



  • Working proficiency with each of the following:


o General microbiologic and cell culture techniques

o Standard molecular techniques, including PCR, qPCR, plasmid purification, bacterial transformation, gelelectrophoresis, western blotting

o Sterile techniques
