RUN), is an urban public research anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking an Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Director for the Academic Foundations Center (
AFC) and the Educational Opportunity Fund Program (
EOF) which will report to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Strategic Partnerships.
The Associate Dean is responsible for the undergraduate academic support initiatives and programs of the
AFC. The undergraduate programs of the
AFC collectively serve over 1,000 low-income, first generation, and underrepresented students.
The Associate Dean/Director has primary administrative, financial, and supervisory oversight for the
AFC and
EOF Program. This would include overall operations as well as setting policy and strategic direction for the department.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Program development with a focus on student outcomes
- Budget development and administration
- Development of strategic plan and establish policy
- Development and implementation that facilitate the persistence, retention, and graduation target population*
- Supervision and/or coordination of recruitment and enrollment management activities
- Assessment and evaluation to measure program and student effectiveness
- Supervision and submission of all required documents, materials, and reports
- Collaborate with institutional and external partners to provide support services
- Grant writing and fundraising activities
- Serves as department chair of Academic Foundations

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a master's degree in education, Counseling or a related field or commensurate experience.
- Five years of responsible administrative, research, and training and must also have demonstrated experience in program assessment and evaluation.

- Demonstrate knowledge of the unique needs of underrepresented students.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Two years of direct experience working with urban, multicultural students, communities and school systems; demonstrated experience in the development and management of creative alternative programming; and strong communication and leadership skills.
- Possess awareness of the distinct life experiences, socio-psychological factors, and family dynamics of first generation, low income, and underrepresented students. They should have a sensitivity to the barriers that disadvantaged students face.
