About the role

We are looking for a Senior Process Safety Engineer. This person will guide and support the production sites of the Borates business to fully implement and embed Process Safety standards and practices. Rio Tinto is engaged in a process safety management program with the goal of eradicating process accidents and minimizing accident exposure.

This role is an excellent opportunity to work with many stakeholders, advise the company, encourage sharing among different operations, promote continuous improvement and obtain the approvals vital to our success. Under the leadership of the Technical and Projects Manager you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the Process Safety incidents are properly analyzed, and that the corrective/preventive actions are defined, while offering the required support to the various sites in analyzing these incidents.
  • Develop an implementation plan for the Process Safety standard, in collaboration with the Minerals sites
  • Ensure/coordinate overall deployment of process safety over the Borates operations.
  • Actively participate in the Process Safety Champions network across Rio Tinto
  • Advise, guide and make the adjustments that can guarantee maximum effectiveness of the Process Safety standard.
  • Validate the standards, procedures and safety action plans of the processes for the sites.
  • Ensure Global Reporting of deployment of the Process Safety standard to the Senior Leadership Team of the Borates business.
  • Ensure implementation of different aspects of the Occupied Building program.

About you

To succeed, the incumbent must have the following assets:

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree in a relevant field
  • At least 7 years of experience in heavy industry processes
  • Proven communications skills to ensure frequent interactions with the production sites
  • Proven leadership in file and/or project management
  • Display good team spirit and strong interpersonal relations skills
  • Very good knowledge of HSE risks and process safety
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement tools
  • Ability to work efficiently
  • Good proficiency in English and French can be a benefit
