About the role:

The Environmental, Social & Governance Director (ESG) partners with commercial, regional and functional leadership to build and execute a clear, practical and actionable enterprise-wide ESG strategy that aligns with business growth, market positioning, and stakeholder expectations, while driving business value across all divisions globally. This senior leadership role serves as the primary ESG business partner for divisional, regional and corporate teams to provide subject matter expertise and leverage the broader ESG team's capabilities (i.e., compliance, disclosures and environmental operations) to advise on and create tangible commercial and enterprise value. The incumbent is expected to model company values and thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed and entrepreneurial environment, while building strong relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be in our local office at least three days per week.

Your responsibilities will include:



  • Developing and executing the annual enterprise ESG strategy, collaborating with divisions, regions and functions to identify how ESG investments and capabilities (e.g., design for sustainability and carbon reduction) can enhance value propositions, win business, and strengthen market access
  • Convening with ESG Disclosure Committee to provide effective governance across the organization, minimize risks and maximize the positive impact of ESG information disclosure on corporate reputation and stakeholder engagement
  • Serving as the enterprise ESG subject matter expert to advise on developments and strengthen fluency and alignment across the organization
  • Shaping and delivering the organization's sustainability narrative by partnering with key internal stakeholders, such as Communications, Investor Relations, HR, Government Affairs, Finance and Legal to ensure appropriate communications are reaching key external stakeholders including investors, customers, patients, government agencies, etc.
  • Providing thought leadership with critical external stakeholder groups including industry coalitions, environmental groups, sustainability professionals and customers and suppliers
  • Translating technical sustainability efforts such as net zero and supply chain transparency into strategic commercial differentiation
  • Understanding business risks and challenges while identifying key market opportunities for customer engagement and brand positioning
  • Coordinating with ESG leads (e.g., environmental reduction, reporting and disclosures) to track progress and translate it into enterprise-level insights


Required qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in sustainability and ESG leadership within a publicly traded organization
  • Minimum 10 years of experience leading teams with ability to exercise influence and foster a collaborative environment
  • Strong subject matter expertise in and understanding of sustainability trends, frameworks, regulations, and best practices
  • Experience developing and executing sustainability programs and strategies
  • Experience with complex customer interactions, products, and services; ability to develop and deliver complex ESG-related communication
  • Ability to travel up to 15% globally


Preferred qualifications:



  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in environmental science, sustainability or related discipline
  • Professional certification(s) relevant to ESG framework (i.e. GRI, CDP, ISSB)
  • Self-directed, self-motivated problem solver; ability to exceed expectations and progress within the organization

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) - see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com--will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).

Compensation for exempt, non-sales roles may also include variable compensation, i.e., annual bonus target and long-term incentives (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
