Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Social Worker/Clinician (LSW/LCSW)

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, and in accordance with Volunteers of America and Division of Mental Health and Addictions regulations, and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards, the Licensed Clinician provides and monitors the daily community support services provided to consumers.

Location: Perth Amboy, NJ 08861 (Middlesex County)

Minimum Qualifications:



  • This position requires a master' degree
  • A license as a practitioner of the healing arts including but not limited to licensed clinical social worker, licensed social worker, licensed rehabilitation counselor, licensed professional counselor, licensed associates counselor, or licensed marriage and family therapist or a registered nurse.
  • In addition to a Master's degree, a licensed marriage and family therapist must have one year experience in a community behavioral health setting or be certified as a psychiatric rehabilitation practitioner in lieu of the one year of experience in community behavioral health setting.
  • This position must possess a valid state driver's license with a safe driving record that meets agency policy.



Program Manager Principal Responsibilities:



  1. Assists the Program Manager with program oversight and training to BA level staff on evidence-based practices.
  2. Provision of 24/7 on-call consultation rotation and support to the consumers.
  3. Implementation of evidence-based practices including but not limited to Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral techniques, DBT, and WRAP to assist the consumers in achieving wellness and recovery goals.
  4. Responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, and updating of the individualized rehabilitation plan. In the absence of PM, will assist with completion of IRP's in other counties.
  5. Complete comprehensive rehabilitation needs assessments (CRNA), provided staff is authorized to perform such service under their professional licensure, certification, or credentialing standards. In the absence of PM, will assist completion of CRNA's in other counties.
  6. Performing crisis intervention.
  7. Coordinating and managing services.
  8. Provide individual, group, and family supportive counseling services to consumers when necessary.
  9. Skill teaching to assist the consumer in developing the skills in various areas that promotes the achievement and maintaining of valued life roles in the area of social, employment, physical health, education, and/or household domains with the goal that the consumer can achieve community integration and remain in an independent living setting of his/her choice.
  10. Attend community-based association meetings (SHA, NJPRA, COC, and NJMHAA) to seek opportunities that promote services and develop relationships that are aligned with VOA's vision to end homelessness by 2050.
  11. Ensure that all paperwork and monthly reports are submitted in a timely manner and according to VOA policy, DMHAS regulations, and Medicaid standards.
  12. Document all observations, information and services provided to the consumer within the required timeframes.
  13. Perform other related duties as requested.
