Overview

The Manager, Simulator Maintenance is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, engineering, and regulatory compliance of all flight simulators, training devices, and training aids owned or sponsored by the company. Acting as a designee of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Management Representative under 14 CFR Part 60, this role ensures strict adherence to the Simulator Quality Management System (SQMS) and compliance with the Flight Operations Training Manual (FOTM) and Flight Operations Manual (FOM). The Manager ensures daily readiness, availability, and quality of training assets through effective resource management, technical leadership, and continuous oversight of third-party maintenance providers. This position requires deep technical knowledge, a proactive approach to regulatory compliance, and the ability to lead within a highly dynamic operational environment.



Responsibilities

    Act as designee of the FAA Management Representative under 14 CFR Part 60, providing daily review and documentation of SQMS compliance.
  • Monitor simulator maintenance contractors to ensure adherence to service level agreements (SLAs) and standard procedures.
  • Review and triage simulator discrepancies, assign corrective actions, and manage priorities in alignment with regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Maintain and validate the FAA Qualification Test Guides (QTGs) for all applicable devices, present simulators and test results during FAA audits.
  • Interface with FAA inspectors and regulatory bodies to address training device compliance and certification.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and coordinate procurement of parts and services for simulator maintenance and engineering.
  • Initiate, track, and update purchase order requests to support ongoing simulator operations and maintenance needs.
  • Perform and document quality control inspections, ensuring maintenance work meets regulatory and internal standards.
  • Track repair status of inoperative systems, update records, and maintain the simulator maintenance database.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain simulator systems, including computer interfaces and peripheral equipment.
  • Interpret mechanical, electrical, and electronic schematics to support repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Oversee simulator logistics operations, including planning, organizing, and coordinating support functions.
  • Monitor for obsolescence issues and recurring failures; develop proactive maintenance and upgrade solutions.
  • Maintain effective communications with vendors and contractors, ensuring clarity of expectations and deliverables.
  • Support and implement FAA-mandated quality management systems related to simulator operations.
  • Performs other administrative projects and responsibilities as directed by the Director, Simulator Programs.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Aviation Maintenance, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Certified Flight Simulator Technician or similar industry qualification (a plus).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a maintenance and/or engineering capacity working on flight simulators and training devices for a Part 121 carrier or equivalent.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience typically required, including experience conducting hands-on maintenance and engineering tasks
  • Project management and/or supervisory experience for at least 5 years is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in practical training, testing, and repair of solid-state devices and complex simulator systems.
  • Advanced ability to perform calibrations, adjustments, and diagnostic testing on electronic simulator equipment.
  • Strong diagnostic capabilities including interpretation of test results, isolation of faults using program listings, and the use of diagnostic software tools.
  • High-level proficiency in micro/miniature printed circuit board repair, electro-mechanical systems, electronic control loading systems, and computer-generated sound systems.
  • Capable of performing routine preventive maintenance, system readiness tests, and pre/post-operational checkouts using maintenance requirement cards and manuals.
  • Proficient in interpreting and utilizing mechanical, electrical, and electronic schematics and documentation.

Special Demands:

  • Must be flexible and able to work various hours and weekends
  • Minimum 10% travel required

Skills:

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, technical environment.
  • Comfortable delivering effective oral presentations to management, regulators, and external stakeholders.
  • Must demonstrate initiative, attention to detail, and a high level of performance in a team environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be willing and able to work within a 24-hour operations environment (weekends/holidays), including travel, as requested.

Salary Range: $109,500 - $148,500

Financial offer within the stated range will be based on multiple factors to include but not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset."
