Summary

A master lead is the technical expert for operational processes. They serve operations in various ways such as establishing best practice, assisting with new product development, training team members, facilitating continuous improvement, and assisting in supervisory activities.

Tasks

Primary Tasks:

  • Completes production part processing based on production demand and staffing requirements.
  • Operate complex machinery including automated cutting tables, heated platen presses, autoclaves, ovens and test equipment.
  • Supports production floor through troubleshooting, operator training and other means.
  • Leads technical training, serves as technical lead for new product development, and develops talent.
  • Works to establish best practices including specific techniques, manufacturing aids, and methods.
  • Collaborates with quality and engineering to review and provide feedback on work instructions, means and methods, and manufacturability issues.
  • Oversight of quality issues & leads root cause corrective action for the department.
  • Encourages continuous improvement and implements changes and process improvements.
  • Participates in EC approval and training.
  • Supervise and lead production team members in their daily activities.
  • Train, review, counsel, and discipline team members as necessary.

Secondary Tasks:

  • Improves manufacturing processes for composite materials by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
  • Proposes revisions to work instructions & BOMs under the guidance of the Manufacturing Engineering assigned to the Value Stream.
  • Learns how to develop, documents, and executes component rework and repair. Performs non-routine rework, as necessary.
  • Supports production floor through troubleshooting, operator training and other means.
  • Evaluates composite materials manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from technicians.
  • Participates in Engineering Review Boards (ERB) walks, presenting for your area.
  • Support tests and research.
  • Provides feedback on equipment utilization and improvements.
  • Communicates abnormal equipment operation with maintenance and supports the troubleshooting process.
  • Fills in for absent team members as needed.

Supervisory Responsibility:

None

Provide direction to other individuals.

Supervises, hires, trains, provides work direction and problem-solving assistance.

Oversees the daily operations of other staff, including scheduling and assigning work.

Manage performance, salary, promotions, transfers, demotions, or terminations.

Required Qualifications

Strong familiarity with aerospace composites & key equipment.

Demonstrated excellence with operational processes and procedures.

Experience participating in or leading new product introduction efforts.

Knowledge of multiple parts and part families, including part drawings.

Ability to understand complex concepts and ability to simplify and present concepts to team members.

Strong and collaborative relationships with team member, leadership, and other departments.

Ability to be patient, steady, and train team members.

Ability to prioritize, create, and innovate.

Preferred Qualifications

Education

High School education or GED required.

Experience

Three or more years of work in aerospace manufacturing preferred. Demonstrated technical work proficiency in the department assigned to & demonstrated leadership skills.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Computer Skills

Ability to utilize computers and related technology efficiently.

Working Conditions

While performing typical duties of this job, production employees will experience the conditions noted below. PPE is provided to protect employees against physical harm or hazards in the workplace environment.

Usually work indoors. These sites may not be temperature-controlled.

Exposure to loud sounds and distracting noise levels.

Exposure to hazardous equipment.

Exposure to contaminants.

Shared workspaces with other employees.

Requires handing objects of up to 50 lbs.

Lifting pushing, pulling, and bending.

Standing and/or walking for 8 to 12 or more hours per day (varies based on role, shift and overtime).

Required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

Required PPE provided by SEKISUI Aerospace based on the employee's position and exposure. Below are typical PPE used on the production floor. Appropriate PPE must be worn by all employees when on the production floor.
