Job Overview:

Ingersoll Rand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer at our Industrial Technologies and Services, America's headquarters in Quincy, IL. This position will help lead the engineering design and development of current and new products, in our Industrial Positive Displacement Blower product lines.

Responsibilities:

• Work with Blower and Blower Package product lines to improve design, performance, and/or manufacturing process.
• Support Engineering efforts on critical projects which includes idea development, prototype, project execution, and plant/business system implementation.
• Design and/or re-design new and existing product lines.
• Produce cost effective designs, complex layouts assemblies, detail parts drawings, and generate associated bills of materials.
• Design and implement test programs to insure designs are adequate for intended purpose and meet specifications and functional requirements
• Evaluate existing products for re-design based on feedback from manufacturing, quality, or assembly and assess functionality to determine product effectiveness for customers.
• Collect product data via reports, manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
• Provide technical guidance to team members including Sourcing, Operations, Customer Service, and Marketing with respect to product-based education and decisions.
• Work with team to standardize product offering through product rationalization and new product development.
• Work closely with Customer Service, Field Service, and Manufacturing personnel to resolve issues regarding legacy and new products.
• May be involved in patent applications for new or existing products.

Requirements:

• Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Master's Degree preferred
• 3+ years of professional experience as an engineer (5 years preferred, will take into account internships)
• Prior experience with rotating equipment design and manufacturing preferred.
• Must have good mechanical aptitude. In lieu of having rotating equipment experience, previous exposure to design of industrial equipment and machinery in general would be appreciated.
• Rotor and impeller profile design experience is preferred.
• Strong proficiency in thermodynamics and compressible flow desired.
• Solid Modeling CAD skills and experience with PLM tools are essential; PTC Creo and Windchill is preferred.
• Computer aided engineering experience with FEA and CFD software.
• Experience with ERP software is desired, ideally in SAP ECC 6.0
• Superior analytical skills required with excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Basic understanding of design and manufacturing principles, with preferred experience in machining, casting, injection molding, fabrication, and gear design and analysis
• Experience in acoustic and vibration analysis highly desired.
• Plant or manufacturing operations experience strongly preferred.
• Strong collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively across functions (operations, product management, sourcing, etc.)
• Must be capable to work in a fast-paced, creative, results-oriented atmosphere.

Preferences:

• Master's Degree in Engineering.
• Prior experience with rotating equipment, rotor/impeller profile design.
• Exposure to industrial equipment and machinery design.
• Hands on with Ansys and/or Converge software
• Strong grasp of thermodynamics and compressible flow.
• Understanding of machining, casting, injection molding, fabrication, gear design/analysis.
• Acoustic and vibration analysis experience.
• Manufacturing operations or plant experience strongly preferred.

Pay Range

The pay range for this role is $70, 000 - $90,000. The pay range considers a wide range of factors that include a candidate's skills; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and geographic location.
