POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the VP, Lending, the External Mortgage Loan Originator plays a crucial role in sourcing and originating first mortgage home loan products. This role involves coordinating with mortgage loan processors, underwriters, and borrowers to ensure a smooth and efficient pipeline, maintaining accurate documentation, and adhering to credit union and regulatory requirements. The goal is to develop a pipeline of business through building relationships and to ensure a smooth and efficient loan experience for the borrowers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES * Sources mortgage leads. * Builds relationships with real estate agents and other lead sources. * Analyzes potential loan markets and develop referral networks to locate prospects for loans. * Markets products to individuals and firms, promoting Lighthouse services that may meet borrowers' needs. * Meets with applicants to obtain information for loan applications and answer questions about the process. * Analyzes applicants' financial status, credit, and property evaluations to assess feasibility. * Explains to borrowers the different types of loans and credit options that are available, as well as the terms of those services. * Generates complete loan applications with corresponding documentation. * Improves loan applications and documentation by informing the applicant of additional requirements. * Assists borrowers by answering questions and responding to requests. * Manage communications with the real estate agent or referral source. * Collaborates with processing and underwriting to aid in resolving mortgage application problems. * Maintains job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations. * Actively participates in activities in connection with mortgage sales, including but not limited to attend closings, open houses, and/or conduct Lighthouse seminars/trainings and other lead-generating activities. JOB SPECIFICATIONS * Understanding of mortgage lending regulations, compliance standards, and loan products. * Familiarity with the mortgage application and closing processes. * Must meet and comply with all requirements set forth in the SAFE ACT including but not limited to successful completion of the required background checks and obtaining a Unique Identifier for NMLS. * Strong organizational and time management abilities. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE * A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized certification or licensing * Two to five years of similar or related experience. * Proficiency in mortgage origination software and Microsoft Office Suite. WORK ARRANGEMENT: The working arrangement for this position is hybrid. Hybrid work is an opportunity to find the right balance between working in the office and remotely, especially if it supports individual success and the needs of our organization. Hybrid schedules are determined by the hiring manager based on business unit needs and may vary by department.
