Departmental Overview

Compensation

  • $13.21-$21.58/hr depending on previous work experience.
  • PRN differential $1.75/hr.
  • Evening differential $1.50/hr.
  • Night differential $1.75/hr.
  • Weekend differential $1.75/hr.

Our Medical Surgical Observation Unit is a fast paced 24 bed telemetry/medical-surgical unit. Common problems seen in our unit include chest pain, syncope, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and diabetes. Our nurse to patient ratio ranges from 4-6 patients depending on acuity. Our patient care tech ratio can range from 8-16 patients. Our care team includes a Charge Nurse, staff nurses and patient care techs with support from respiratory, lab, and case management departments. We orient new patient care techs with a 4-6 week orientation program with a dedicated preceptor team.   • Provides basic patient care.
  • Assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment.
  • Takes and records vital sign (VS) data and relays to patient's nurse.
  • Provides general nursing care and routine treatment /procedures.
  • Facilitates processing of patients
  • Provides clerical receptionist support
  • Provides Coordinating Support
  • Performs additional duties related to the specific needs of the department

Qualifications

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Certification as a nursing assistant or 6 months of recent experience as a nursing assistant.

Experience

  • Six (6) months of recent experience as a nursing assistant.
  • Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant or one clinical semester of nursing school or successful completion of an acute care nurse aide course; or six (6) months previous experience in a healthcare position can be substituted for the experience.

Licensure/Certification

  • Basic Life Support *(BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained through re-training for duration of employment.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
