EXECUTIVE SERVICE

(This position serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.)


The Maryland Transportation Authority owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes, across the State of Maryland. Nature of Work: The Fleet Manager provides managerial support to the Fleet Administrator at the Maryland Transportation Authority. The primary purpose of the position is to plan, procure, manage, and budget for the entire fleet of agency vehicles and equipment.


Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Management and oversight of approximately 1,800 light and heavy-duty vehicles and pieces of equipment for law enforcement, maintenance operations, and engineering;
  • Replacement planning, policy development, procurement, contract and project management, and budget creation and implementation;
  • Managing, implementing and executing all necessary steps and procedures to address a wide range of vehicle and equipment repair analysis, issues, and circumstances within the operational equipment areas of the MDTA;
  • Interpretation and implementation of State Vehicle Fleet Policies and Procedures as administered and defined by the Department of Budget and Management;
  • Assist in the annual procurement of light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment; and
  • Develop, monitor, update and execute fiscal year and Capital Equipment replacement projection schedules.

This position will report directly to the Fleet Administrator. The current vacancy is located in Baltimore County, MD. Hybrid telework schedules may be available for this position. This work requires the ability to climb into and operate vehicles and equipment.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six years of experience in administrative staff or professional work. *Two years of this experience must include the management and procurement of fleet vehicles and equipment.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Knowledge of state procurement and vehicle rules, regulations, and COMAR
  • Write, review and evaluate bid specifications for fleet
  • Experience in fiscal year and long-term Capital budget preparations
  • Two years of experience working in the Federal Government

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Licenses & Certifications
