Health Data Analyst - West Virginia University, Morgantown WV. Will conduct relevant policy and evaluation research in health outcomes and participate in interdisciplinary research and evaluation teams in Morgantown, WV.

What You'll Do

Will utilize strong analytical skills and find insights in disparate data. Will effectively communicate that information to drive decision making. Will serve as an Office of Health Affairs ("OHA") representative and liaison to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources for the planning and performance of projects, programs and activities involving health data analytics and program evaluation. Will facilitate communication and collaboration between research partners at the OHA and the staff of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. Will ensure that data analytic and research/evaluation activities are compliant with the OHA and university level policies for the responsible conduct of research, as well as federal and state policies. Will support OHA projects in communicating data and spatial analyses to many audiences. Will collaborate with OHA projects to execute both basic and complex data and mapping analyses. Will prepare static and interactive maps and dashboards for internal and external audiences. Will use mapping and statistical software including GIS, Python, and SQL Server to clean, manage, and analyze data. Will conduct trainings and workshops on GIS to build the OHA analytic workforce capacity. Will provide consultation to faculty and government partners regarding the preparation of research proposals, design and methodology, data analytics, and interpretation of results. Will identify opportunities for potential collaborations between the Health Sciences Center and the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. Will prepare reports as required by the university, the Health Sciences Center administration, and external agencies. Will communicate the results of analytic projects and program evaluations with relevant staff of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. Telecommuting permitted.


Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in Public Health or Health Economics and two years of experience in data security and compliance, including HIPAA and PHI data access and storage.

Skills/Requirements: Six months of experience in the following: (1) conducting research and evaluation within an academic or government sector; (2) reviewing claims data and interacting with users to map out the collected information; (3) utilizing large health databases for research, program evaluation, and policy development; (4) health data analytics; (5) utilizing standard software packages, including SAS or R; (6) manipulating data and automating processes; (7) working with claims data relying on an understanding of eligibility, facility header, facility detail, and professional files; (8) software tools, including SQL, PowerBI, and TOAD; and (9) working in a healthcare environment involving claims.
