PEMEX Deer Park is a highly complex refinery located 18 miles east of Houston in Deer Park, TX. It is part of the Pemex group, a fully integrated oil company in the Americas, working across the entire value chain: exploration, production, industrial processing/refining, logistics, and marketing. The refinery’s rated capacity is 340,000 barrels per day, and it has the feed flexibility to process multiple grades of crudes to produce the high-quality transportation fuels the world needs. The Pemex site is co-located with other 3rd party chemical facilities, allowing for further integration and optimization of the refinery and its products. As a Staff Electrical Engineer, you will serve as a key member of the Electrical Engineering Department at PEMEX Deer Park, leveraging your technical expertise and interpersonal skills to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of site assets. In this staff-level role with no direct reports, you will collaborate extensively with internal teams, including Operations, Maintenance, Process Engineering, other discipline specialists, and external vendors and partners. You will apply Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles and advanced analytical techniques to diagnose and resolve electrical issues, improve asset performance, and provide strategic guidance to maintenance teams. Your ability to navigate complex interfaces, manage diverse priorities, and build strong working relationships will be essential to your success.

 

To succeed as the Staff Electrical Engineer, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years of experience, preferably in large petrochemical or industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Solid knowledge of high- and low-voltage electrical systems (138kV to low voltage), protective relays (Schweitzer, GE), power systems, circuit breakers, and SKM software.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70/70E/70B, API RP-500, NEMA, NETA, ANSI; PEMEX TA3 designation preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, SKM Power Tools, PowerDB, IMS, and SAP with strong troubleshooting and causal reasoning abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication; ability to travel occasionally to support site operations and vendor coordination.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide technical guidance and assurance for Management of Change (MOC), complex Asset Strategy Modifications (ASMs), and electrical project scopes.
  • Drive reliability improvements by identifying recurring issues and obsolescence risks and developing long-term strategies for power distribution systems.
  • Support maintenance and operations through preventive maintenance planning, turnaround preparation, and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
  • Ensure compliance and safety by upholding OSHA and industry codes and promoting a strong electrical safety culture.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners to support continuous operation and innovation across electrical infrastructure.
